Timing not out apparently, but it could be the MAP sensor. If I trawl the local scrapyards for a 480, does it matter about engine size/year for the MAP?

Bloody bonnet lock broke today too.

I think this one's cursed...

Cam belt is slightly out so that can be altered.

Will taking the air filter out improve the vacuum? I thought it would make it run richer.

Won't Redex make it run even richer? Rich mentioned using higher octane petrol to get it running leaner too. What do you think? I'm going to take it for a long run before it goes back for the MOT too. No decent pictures yet, I'll try and get some in the Dales over the next few days. It looks great; ...

Emissions Nightmare

Having a nightmare trying to get the emissions down on my 1989 ES. The mobile tuning guy has suggested a few things to check, but wondered what you thought. I'll fill you in on the saga so far: Failed MOT as the CO was at 9%, should be 3.5% Flushed engine, new oil, spark plugs (genuine Volvo ones: Ã...

FOR SALE - 480 Turbo Auto

Decided to sell the 480. It's done 105k, but runs superbly. Good interior, Volvo boot cover still there, new alternator, back box and midsection plus plenty of other maintenance. Slight bad points: Crack in the windscreen. Slightly dicky auto gearbox. If you're interested let me know, I'll get some ...

It was the one near the cat - it was barely holding on in the first place, it only had two rivets in so it came off pretty easily.

Heatshields

Anyone know if running without a heatshield is going to melt the stuff it protects? The rivets snapped off and now the heatshield is no more...

Alternator

Took an alternator off an early 480 ES, but I'm not sure it's going to fit on my 1990 Turbo.

It's a slightly different shape (doesn't have the plastic cover on the engine side) anybody know if it's compatible? Not sure what year the one I took it off was.

Cheers.

Wax

Anybody know a better wax than T-Cut? My bonnet has loads of small scratches, grit I suppose, and it's faded a bit. T-Cut just isn't up to scratch (ha, ha).

This is what's frustrating. The cable is tight and won't adjust any further. I thought that the caliper would be fine after only a year's use.

MOT Failure: The Sequel

Took my beloved 480 for its retest today, new seatbelt working superbly, handbrake adjusted etc. But again it failed due to 'no reserve travel on handbrake'. This caliper was replaced last year and he reckons it is applying pressure, but not enough and not soon enough. I'm going to take it back to t...

Definitely not going to anyone to have it, I think I'll go for the budget option. Looks a bit better after some hammer treatment. Looks even better after washing and waxing.

I was thinking more along the lines of taking the trim off inside and using a hammer. It could easily end up like Father Ted, when they have the car as a prize and one dint ends up turning the car into tin foil, though.

Dints

Anyone know a good way getting rid of dints? Thankfully not on the 480 (sigh of relief), but on a Pug 205 I'm attempting to make some money on.

Cheers, think that should sort it. Still having a bit of trouble finding a rear seatbelt to get it through the MOT. Loads of 440 ones out there - does anyone know if they will fit?

MOT Fail

Not on anything diasterous thankfully, mainly on the rear seatbelt not retracting. Tried to fix it, only got hit in the face once trying to put the spring back in...Anyway has anyone got a seatbelt they are willing part with for cash and postage?

Sludge

Just been servicing my 480, inside the distributor cap and all over the rotor arm was black with sludge. Anyone got any ideas what this signifies?

Even if you had, it seems that other 480 owners don't give a shit. Has anyone else found this? You have to give the obligatory flash to to them, but with nothing back. Is there a hierarchy of colour...?
