Re: Oil separator removal on a B20F engine

Thanks Ben.

Did you have to tap in the new one with a hammer or just give it a twist?

Any danger of it blowing out if not secure enough?

Oil separator removal on a B20F engine

Hi.
I cannot find any info about removing the oil separator on my 2.0 litre B20F engine.
I have a new one ready to go in and it looks like it's just a push in job.
I would have thought that it should be more secure.
Any help.

Hi Brasco. You were right about the idle valve. I took it out and cleaned it well. The shudder is gone and the revs are not dropping. Now the engine is smooth and the revs drop to about 1200 between changes. On a static idle they eventually settle down at 900. Response to the throttle is positive an...

Thanks for the reply.
I'll clean the idle valve and try it again.
I'm not sure where the throttle position sensor is. I'll have a look and clean the pins/contacts.
Maybe the Haynes has a value for it.
Thanks again

Mass Airflow

Am I right in thinking that my B20F, non turbo engine does NOT have a mass airflow meter? I am still trying to find the cause for that engine shudder when I depress the clutch while slowing /changing down. The revs drop down to about 500 then, with a shudder, they come back up to about 1200 and then...

I transferred the good pump motor into my good pump/sender unit and also replaced the inline fuel filter. The engine is running much better now. More responsive. I suspect the clogged filter was responsible for overloading and burning out the pump. My fault for never replacing it. The idling seems m...

Esta and Lee. Thanks for the replies and the info. Yes, I did put a live feed to the pump just a while ago and nothing. The plastic around the positive terminal is all brown and melted so Ipresume the motor is burned out. However I started thinking about that kit that just has the metal pump and var...

WANTED - Fuel Pump

Hi. Where do I get a new fuel pump for my 480S, 2.0lt, B20F, 60lt tank? Parts for volvo online have a kit for £90. Some rubber hoses and a pump unit. Has anybody used one of these? I am reluctant to try a secondhand pump again as it might fail and the big ones are a tight fit and tricky to get in...

Creepy

The engine in my '95 480S, a 2.0 liter B20F has developed a shudder. Normally it idles smoothly at about 950 rpm but when backing off on the throttle and pressing the clutch to change gear and slow down, the revs drop to about 700 and the engine shudders. Within moments the revs come up again to abo...

Stop Leak

My B20F 2.0 litre engine, 143500 miles, has a crankshaft seal oil leak. I was advised to put in some Stop Leak to control or minimize the leak. I used a can of 300 ml ADD-IT Oil Seal Stop Leak. I have only done a few miles since so can't comment yet. Has anybody any reports or used a similar product...

Many thanks but the panic is over. I finally got it sorted. The lampcontrol seems to be ok. I peeled a good bit of the trim back and found some guy had inserted extra lenghts of wire to give him more room at the ends, but had failed to insulate them properly. The insulation had rubbed off in one pla...

Hi Jens. I finally got it sorted. I plucked up the courage and peeled back all the trim around the back window. I found new pieces of wire had been put in at some time. One wire was not properly insulated and was rubbing off the metal. This was causing a short to earth. I renewed the wires (soldered...

Lampcontrol unit

Hi. I am having trouble with the rear upper brake light. Some wires (the 5 black ones at the top of the rear door) were broken and repaired before I got the car. As a result the rear upper/centre brake light comes on with the ignition and stays on. The other lights and wiper behave normally. No matt...

Sticky situation

This is about glue. What kind of glue, or mastic, should I use? I want to replace the small piece of side moulding that goes along as a continuation of the moulding on the door. The old piece is scratched and bashed and I have a new (secondhand) piece to go on. The Haynes says just prise off the old...

Interior Lights

Has anyone had this problem? The interior lights will only dim and go out if the car is locked. They work normally when the engine is started and again when the engine/ignition is switched off and when you leave the car and lock it. However, if you leave the car unlocked they stay bright and run dow...
