Re: Indicators

Joep can sell you a replacement Day Running Light (DRL) lens. This is just the clear square lens, most inboard on the cluster. I will send you his email via PM. If you want replacement indicator lenses, the French 480 club shop look like they will have them available soon: https://www.volvo480.shop/...

Re: I now have the 1987 radio experience (almost)

Oh dear. Another early car foible is that one of the routing brackets can tear out of its mount. It does seem odd that yours is still half connected— like it has gotten longer or pulled the bracket.

Keep up posted and good luck!

Re: I now have the 1987 radio experience (almost)

Ah that’s annoying. Is it the cable itself that has snapped or the connector between the cable on the pedal? Early cars can have a plastic connector which is prone to failure. Replacing it with a later metal one fixes this nicely!

Hello Lee and welcome back! Looking forward to hearing about what you get up to with 3 (?) cars. Are they all going back on the road?

Re: From Norfolk to North Wales - SJ's 480S

Hmm, not sure the diagnostics on the CEM is smart enough to tell you much. How about you pop the internal door lock covers off and give a squirt with contact cleaner— just in case the micro switches in there are giving trouble? The same with the actual latching part on the door (that’s where the doo...

Bad news and likely not a great outcome, sadly.

I think worrying about cloning the registrations is the least of his worries now!

Re: Heater matrix

Still available for the majority, however very early cars are different (pipes in slightly different place on the bulkhead). I couldn’t find an early one so it was easier to have it remade at a radiator repair place. Not sure what yours is but hopefully by 89-90 they had replaced with the later type...

Just as I saw the Mk. 1 Espace in his videos. Later ones I’m not sure about so could be wrong on those.

Re: How to tell that an Aerodeck isn't a 480

I’m very hard to please in respect to YouTube videos but I really enjoyed this video! Only correction is not related to the 480: the carburettor Renault 2.0 engine he is referring to in his Espace is more likely to be the J5R Douvrin engine. I had one of these in my Master and it was only possible t...

Re: Overheating of the Catalyst

Thanks. I thought 480s only had a Lambda sensor before the catalytic converter bit your car has two does it not? One after the cat also? If your Cat is empty, it’s unlikely it is blocked and heating up so maybe you just have an indication problem? I’m sorry but I don’t know if the exhaust temperatur...

Re: Overheating of the Catalyst

Do you actually have a Catalytic Converter on a 1989 car? I thought they weren’t fitted until later, however your car could have gotten it early if it was meant for a market with tighter emissions regulations (e.g. Japan or USA).

Can you post some pics of the car up?

Sounds like that is indeed the overheated exhaust or catalytic converter light by its position matching the symbol in the parts catalogue.
