Re: Radiator replacement options.

Although Will, I understand you are running waterless coolant, like I am, and it is occasionally getting a tad hot on the Info Centre, but not actually an issue to worry about. Could it be time to add the bigger radiator? I think you need to replace one hose and some brackets to hold it in? This is ...

Wasn't it added for the German market too? If so, the Germans have their own 480 forum and you may get more help there.

Re: Radio repair

Hey Dave. I have that radio too. It sounds pretty bad by modern standards with its internal amplifiers. However, it has the plugs on the back to accept external Volvo amplifiers of the era, right up to at least 850. How about getting an amp from a scrap car car and seeing if that sorts out the sound...

Re: What's the oldest remaining 480?

Thanks James - do you know the first registered dates for the 2 red UK launch cars by any chance? I was watching a UK launch video recently and I think the cars were left hand drive I think I have those dates somewhere. I heard the LHD cars for the UK event were crushed! That event must pre-date th...

Re: What's the oldest remaining 480?

Hey all. UK cars are about a year late to the party so the earliest cars will not be the ones Keith and I have. Ours are the two earliest known in the UK though. Top fact: I used to own Keith’s too! My chassis number is 507274, Keith’s is 507167. There are pre-production cars in the NL which are, I ...

Re: Where are the horns located?

At the back of the front bumper in the middle. Under tray is in the way!

There are two. Frequency is mentioned in the parts catalogue. Try do get the right ones. I didn't so my car is a joke to other 480s with their loud deep horns!

Re: Throttle control

Turbo cars all have a MAF (manifold air flow) sensor to work out how much air is getting in to the engine. They all have pretty much the same engine management system. Early N/A cars have a MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor and an intake air temperature sensor to work out how much air is getting in...

Re: Throttle control

Hey Dave, Throttle position sensor really does read just on and off on your engine. It tells the ECU to use the idle air control valve to maintain idle and that’s about it. You should hear it click with the lightest pull of the throttle cable. If not, it needs adjusted by moving on the slotted holes...

I seem to remember Ade found some interesting stuff out about different length of plugs for the Turbo engine years ago. Along the lines of aftermarket being a little shorter in some cases but not really why.

I got some from Skandix ages ago along with a big order for the car. https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/body/interior-equipment/safety-belt-system/button-lock-safety-belt/1034049/ I don't think they are anything special or specific to the 480. For example, these look awfully familiar don't they: ...

Re: Volvo 480 Turbo, Gear change problem.

Ah, the car has an automatic gearbox? It must used Dexron II specification in that case. What did they put in?

Ignore what I said about linkage being worn.

There is also a kickdown cable on the automatic which can be set up right/wrong.

Often linked to either wrong gear box oil or worn selector linkage. These should be still available as a part for a Renault Clio
