Re: New Year, New 480!

Have you tried the brinkie headlamp clean trick? Bridging the relay so the things pop up and down for 10 minutes? Plus one for this. Mine were pretty good after ‎20 year lay up and then got a bit of a mind of their own a few months after first use. I exercised them over a few days driving and they ...

Re: Engine Electrics

Really pleased for you Mike. Would love a Robou'd Turbo in my life one day. See you at a meet this year?‎ What do you reckon the problem with the main lights is? Is it a case of the high beams not latching on or not being able to do the instantainous flash? If so, this will be the stalk unfortunatel...

But you've got to get them somewhere if you want your headlights aimed correctly to pass an MOT haven't you. 480 owners are a very captive market!

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

No idea, sorry. I know the prices are always hilarious when I’ve bought anything for my wife’s Mini. If you’re lucky, they could be equivalent to 0.94EUR but saving you the P&P, which I presume is your thinking Alan?

Re: Turbo on eBay

Getting V5 for my car was very easy, however I hadn’t figured in breaker’s yard possibly being a little dishonest. Hopefully it isn’t registered as scrap or that would be a pointless purchase unless it is a reversible situation. To be honest I probably need some good reasons not to do this. If mine ...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Injectors out won’t be included on a full service but a garage will happily do it for you I’m sure. It’s more of an on condition sort of thing. They’ll probably prefer that they do the access work and you arrange the overhaul With a company like Injector Tune. I’m afraid I have no idea how to change...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

A different part: The difference between black bodied and blue bodied sensors is that one is PTC (positive temperature coefficient) and one is NTC (negative temperature coefficient). I can't remember which is which right now but basically they work in opposite ways. The earlier car's ECU expects the...

If I didn't have the shonky C70 I would be diving in with both feet!‎ It is taking up space, time, money and is rewarding to drive *sometimes* in return.

Re: Turbo on eBay

I'm starting to talk myself in to getting this just to save and sell on. It can't be that hard to get running, registered and MOT'd hopefully. This would just be to increase its chances of survival, not to keep. But then, we've seen what happened to Jifflemon with this benevolent attitude and now he...

Re: Strange coolant leak from engine block - help!

Oh dear. This is exactly what happened to me, with the core plugs rotting out from the inside. I had to be trailered home from one of our meets on my car's only second outing after getting back on the road. Engine came out, all plugs replaced and now running on waterless coolant to avoid any future ...

Did you get a coil Mike?‎ I seem to remember it is the same as a Porsche 928, which goes to explain why they are so expensive!

A belated happy new year to everyone too! All the best.

Judging from the posts, I see plenty of resurrected 480's being roadworthy on the horizon so let's hope Slyvia's meets are even more well attended than last year's fun times. ‎

Martin this is great news that you are back with a 480. It's obviously in your blood now. Well done mate. Look forward to seeing you at a meet this year! There some gear linkage parts available at www.volvo340onderdellen.nl but I'm not sure if they are everything that you need to overhaul the lot. ‎ A member on here did find that everything was still available for Clio/Meganne cars from Renault but did not elaborate with part numbers. Wow, great progress and a good find on the dodgy strut mounts.

Looking forward to seeing you on one of Sylvia's meets. It's great there are so many cars getting back on the road this year. ‎
