Re: Lifetime care?

One of them did a cassette that came with my old F-reg 480. It was like a promo sort of thing I think. I wish I’d made a copy!

Re: front strut brace

I don't know how a lowered 480 with 4 people in (even two small ones!) would feel. I presume pretty awful. Might be nice with two minus luggage.  @Jeff: have you filled your blue Turbo one with people? ‎ When I was in my early 20's, we used to travel from Newcastle to Glasgow in an acquaintance's lo...

Re: front strut brace

Are you sure that just because a car's body rolls relative to its axles that it is not handling or holding on to the road? I think lowered cars just give the perception of handling better because they don't make you feel like you're going to fall out the door and replace it with the feeling you're g...

That steering wheel is from a Renault 5 GT turbo.
A small victory there for Volvo owners!

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

If you've had the coolant changed then it will be good for about 3-5 years so don't worry about this then other than level checks. ‎ ‎The brakes might have sorted themselves out if the car has gone from not being used much to being used properly now. Just monitor for now. If one wheel feels consiste...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

That's not good news about the front calliper sticking. If it happened once, it is unlikely to be a one off. if you are driving it a lot, make a habit when you get out of just feeling with your hands from a small distance to compare the two different sides. If you can't feel heat with your hands the...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Oh, and like a pre-flight briefing, warn all rear seat passengers about the seatbelt arms and putting their weight on the dashboard or big long doors when getting in and out! I suggest a threat of getting the bus home. You can use the journey time to explain the concept of unobtainium to them. Carry...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Aye, she'll do 4 up with luggage no problem. The rear suspension might hit the bump stops on rough roads though. Make sure you've still got both of them and you're good to go! They look like plastic turrets (about 6-8" high) sticking up from the rear axle.‎ ‎ Loaded you might need to drop a gear ear...

Wow, this is so impressive! Well done!

Do I remember that you are based in Cambridgeshire too? If so, I can tell you that Morley Brothers in Milton are still open for powder coating work. I dropped a wheel off about two weeks ago and it was back in 7 days.

For your next trick, will you be retrieving the fuel injector clips from the engine bay or the heat selection bowden cable cable from the dashboard?!

Regarding the Radio 2 traffic presenters, I thing Sally Traffic did the audio cassette which ‎came with early cars extolling their virtues. I had this tape in my long lost minter. I wish I'd at least taken a copy of the tape before I sold it.

Re: Famous 480 owners?

Jim Bell endorsed the car when it came out, very favourably of course but he would have been paid to do so. The video is on YouTube‎. Also, last year a vandalised 480 was offered for free by someone on behalf of someone famous. They offered it with an autograph! Search on here. I'll try to dig links...

Hey Ben, welcome aboard.  A dodgy instrument cluster is a common thing and the easiest thing is to remove it and send it to Brinkie in The Netherlands for repair‎, if he is still accepting jobs during his lock down. Mine went and came back just before the UK locked down. The instrument cluster isn't...
