Re: Pool Car R3

It is for sale - several people have expressed interest but no firm commitment yet, mainly waiting to see if the mot throws up anything unexpected. The car is not quite ready, the speedo cluster was missing and it has to have a rare early one. Jeff has managed to source the parts to do a conversion ...

So sorry to hear the devastating news about your mum.

Re: 480 ES For Sale in Essex

Sorry to hear your wedge is moving on. I doubt anyone on here will be surprised you bonded with it - everyone does, and everyone ends up with another one sooner or later. Hope to see you at the Unexceptional, do come and chat if you spot a 480 owner or three 😉 £1250 isn't optimistic at all now the a...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Lovely fairtale ending ! I don't doubt that Colin will be back in a 480 of his own at some point in the future, but meanwhile a rescue car could possibly be arranged and it's great to know that Blinky is safe and John happily back in wedgeland. As you no doubt know, the pot is seriously depleted at ...

by Norm57 » Fri May 07, 2021 11:45 am Classic car in delivery driver horror! Love it !! Just a slight reality check if I may Of course you may ! And if it was one of our own cars I'd totally agree with you. However, as a prudent retired accountant, there is a plan A, a plan B and a plan C. W...

Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

9.40 this morning: https://dragonflyjewel.co.uk/sylvia/R5/arrival.jpg We chatted to the driver who seemed very nice, until he told us he 'used to cut these up after taking the engines out for Renault 5s' Apparently his own Renault went to Lotus to have the suspension tweaked. He didn't appear to kno...

Re: Sven the Terrible

Sven is now finished, just needs a few bits sorted on the interior then he's off to Pedantic for an mot. We've only had the sides and back painted, plus black stripes re-instated on the all-green bumpers. https://www.dragonflyjewel.co.uk/sylvia/sven/2021bodyshopfinished.jpg Looks great, just don't l...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Looks fabulous ! Glad to see your patience has been so well worth while. Talking of thin bumper stripes, we went to see Sven today. Paint job all finished but the rear bumper stripe is also thin - must be a bodyshop 'thing' to match the width on the bumper to the width on the rubbing strips. I didn'...

Well, the drivers door and front wing look like Paris Blue but the rear quarter and the bonnet look more like Petrol Blue to me.

I wonder if it sat on the boat next to my old Turbo H858 FGV?

Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

Sylvia you are going to have to rename your house. Something like Wedge restholme I think!
Funny you should say that - when I told my son R4 was coming to us for a while, his immediate response was 'Oh, so you're fostering them as well now' Maybe Wedgie Fosterhouse ?

Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

After 24 hours swinging on the pendulum of 'Want it, must save a turbo' to 'Dont want it, havent seen the wheel arches', the seller has now seen sense and accepted the bid - now it's OMG what have I done !! Copart's fees are quite ferocious - I thought it was now illegal to charge for using a credit...

Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

Having talked myself out of this car last week, I weakened and had another look at the weekend. On Monday I rang Copart at Wisbech and a very nice chap said he could go out and look at the car for me and take extra pics, but I had to be a member. Sooo, I parted with £100 only to be told that the reg...

Re: Hampshire-Lincolnshire Meet 7th - 8th Aug 21

Thanks to Ben for the suggestion of meeting up at the Winchester Auto Barn - sadly his enquiries elicited the information that they will be closed, but there will be a coffee van outside and there are toilets so it will still make a good meeting place for Saturday morning. Saturday night we will be ...

BTW, I learned to drive on a Nova Merit!! Actually, no, on reflection it was a Nova Club! I learned to drive in my first car, a 1938 Austin 12 cabriolet - a bit bigger than a London taxi. Go round the Marble Arch roundabout in my boyfriend's mini and we got stampeded by a herd of impatient taxi dri...

'blue rinse' refers to old ladies who used to have their hair done with the stuff (giving away my age here!) It's the female version of 'cloth cap'

Re: "Volvo 480 Bows Out With Dignity", Autocar magazine 19th July 1995

Surprised that they found the handling so bad, from all other accounts it is superb, but then maybe the 2.0 had different dynamics Al and I each have a 2litre and a turbo, we are agreed (makes a change!) that the 2 litre has better handling. I often wonder if the journalists that write these review...
