Well done Edie ! Good promotion even if the article wasn't about the 480.

Re: oops, we did it again !

Putting heads before hearts, we decided that maybe the 2litre was just one too many. As the condition of both cars remains shrouded in mystery we dont yet know if the Celeb is saveable and if it turned out not to be we would have a breaker on our hands anyway. Having been given it for free we could ...

Re: 480 for a car review wanted!

Great idea to cover the range - we'd be happy to take a turbo up to Yorkshire. If it could be timed for when James has his car back and isn't working, perhaps she could try a launch car as well (sorry James, volunteered you there, no pressure!) This is all beginning to sound like a mini meet convoy....

Re: 480 for a car review wanted!

Well done Robert - sounds like a great idea. We have several members up in Yorkshire - maybe she would like to meet Pud the rescue Celebration and include a bit on the rescue group.

oops, we did it again !

Buses galore ! This time it's not 1 but 2 480s, being offered for free on Facebook. One is a much loved Celebration auto - unbelievably it's storm grey again ! Owned 25 years but off the road for 5 years (hasn't said why) The other is a 2ltr. We have little information on either of them apart from t...

Re: Latest ebay offering

We did look at this one, but promptly lost interest on checking the MoT history and found serious rust issues in 2009. Probably been all downhill from there, so it really does just look like a piles of spares.

Glad to hear we arent the only ones that talk to ours. A friendly pat on the top of the dash and a 'well done' after every journey does wonders
I shall never forget Al criticising Snazzy as he got out only to have the door swing shut and bite his fingers!

Re: 1.7 480

The Celebration on facebook belongs to Arthur (on the forum as oddballer) He came to the lunch on our last visit to Rutland Water in it. Looks lovely, I'm surprised it hasn't sold. I wondered if the 340 owner who has just popped up on fb looking for a Celeb would pick up on it. Sadly Arthur's income...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

The seams in the roof are about 10-15 cms in from the edges and run from front to back. Your line of rust looks to be further towards the middle?
This really is starting to look like a nice pile of spares....

Re: 1.7 480

So, you are happy with the spec and engine, which is good. You'll see the condition when you view it, also good. The mileage is dubious, check the condition of the driver's seat and the pedal rubbers - any signs of wear usually means high mileage. Ask when the cambelt was last changed - if he doesn'...

I'll add my tuppence worth: Love your enthusiasm but dont let it rush you into making the wrong decision. We'd like to welcome you into the wedgie fold with a car you'll be happy with. A disaster could mean the loss of a new member. I have to say, a 480 is a great choice for someone wanting a 90's c...

Re: Volvo 480 book

Eric emailed me a few days ago to say that he has sent the order to the printers even though he only has about 30 orders. This is because some copies are wanted as Christmas gifts. If he still has stock of them when I start planning the next meeting (whenever that might be !) I shall order a small s...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

If you do find the alternator is defunct, check if it's the original Volvo one. If so it would be better to have it refurbed than replace with an aftermarket one. James and I have both had starter motors done by JASM (Just Alternators and Starter Motors) who seem to have done a good job. I had an af...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

We sold a mk2 Golf when I bought my first 480 in 2001 and it was love at first drive. Neither hubby nor I would have another Golf now we have 4 x 480s. , including my original one. I would be very reluctant to sell any of them - once driven forever smitten. There are plenty of people on here who hav...

Now that Pud has gone to to dc's Pamper Parlour under his own steam he has a new thread under Pud the Celebration so his story continues on there. DC is old school, all transport is female 😄
