There' also Murf's blue gauge faces available to download and print on the main site, at the bottom under 'Volvo 480 Fun Files': http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/volvo480/downloads.php

Re: Digital Clock Repair

Any pads (should have mentioned copper pad rather than button) where a connection is made, in this case particularly the zebra strip but might as well clean up the buttons too: https://i.imgur.com/iHARgt6.png Very useful things in general for cleaning up PCBs. Would also be worth drenching the silic...

Re: Digital Clock Repair

Bit late to this and I don't have one here to take apart to check, but does the screen use a zebra connector, which looks something like this picture from the internet: https://www.konlidainc.com/images/zebra-connector2.jpg (labelled here as 'inter-connector', enjoy the rest of the Chinglish as well...

I'm sorry to hear that. I echo James' comments above - best wishes to both Sylvia and Al.

Re: New Owner - 1992 Limited Edition

Check the door stays (metal arm by the hinges) - they may well have separated from the door itself, probably on the inside. Not uncommon on the driver's door, less so on the passenger side (purely based on frequency of door opening and closing). The fix usually involves some welding as the door stay...

Re: Instrument / Rev Counter / Speedo Repair

The blue thing I can't comment on as my reference early PCB is currently in a car for troubleshooting purposes, but are you certain it's not just a through-hole component mounted to the board? The four 'pins' are actually sockets, the pins being on the other side coming through from the gauge itself...

Welcome - have you found these two threads yet: Instrument Cluster Repair: https://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35684 Speedo Cable Repair: https://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35515 The speedo isn't particularly complex so it's highly likely to be some c...

Google Images seems to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes I can view images like yours if I'm logged into my Google account in the same browser, but in this particular thread I can't. Best practice seems to be to follow Jeff's process, and ensure that you are embedding a url ending in 'something.jpg'...

June 10th pencilled in for me too. Gives me two and half months to get a car on the road again. Nice to have a target!

Re: Infocenter disco mode

Not the whole cluster, just the PCB in the second image. Very unlikely to find one of those for sale either, however forum member Brinkie (a fellow countryman of yours) might well be able to help. Also long shot but try cleaning up the info centre switch (or leaving it unplugged completely) - if the...

Re: Infocenter disco mode

Does look a lot like a bad connection on the zebra connector - it does come apart completely, see pic of one currently on my desk: https://i.imgur.com/uOIsQD0.jpg Joints on the board and isopropyl alcohol on the zebra and LCD, although it sounds like you know what you're doing on that front! Failing...

Re: Wanted: Rear tail lights and rear crashbar

I imagine Jeff will be along shortly, but one way or another I think there will be a solution. Where are you (and the garage)? There are a number of us spread around with secret stashes of parts, hidden from both the public at large and in some cases our other halves, with varying degrees of success...

Re: The Bean Counter theory

Any speculation as to whether the run-out models (i.e. Celeb and GT) got a few extras here and there to clear out the parts bins? My GT spent most of its life in the original owner's garage, then a brief stint at an independent dealer, then me, and it came with a soft-close ash tray and a white dot ...

Re: Volvo 480 S - 1.7 White Facebook

The key takeaway from this thread is that I would pay good money to watch James offering his frank opinions on other people's cars, as per the 'James May Roasts' series on DriveTribe.

Come to think of it, our James already has the hair and the questionable shirts, all he needs is a camera

Ah yes - should have read your first post in more detail and taken note of the fact that it's an early car - this post may be of some limited help, but James is a walking encyclopedia for the early cars and will no doubt be along in due course with far more information!

One other thing to check - if you see 12V on the low current side of the pop-up relay but nothing happens then open it up and check the joints connecting the horizontal and vertical boards as per the picture below: https://i.imgur.com/OXZ0Km1.jpg If you've got a soldering iron it wouldn't hurt to re...

Re: Pop up lights problem

Sounds like the switch is the next thing to look at as per Jeff's suggestion above - I've got a switch somewhere that will turn the bulbs on fine on my GT but won't raise the pop-ups, so there's a precedent. Even if the switch is completely fubar'd finding a replacement won't be difficult on here! T...
