Re: Alistair (Al) Luckham

Those of you who attended the GT anniversary meet last year may remember that on account of the fair October weather we were plagued by horses and cyclists on the roads. Towards the end of the day we came upon a picturesque (and mercifully clear) stretch of road between Merton and Weston On The Gree...

Re: Air con with only slider controls? (Looking to buy a 480)

I borrowed both of these photos from Google, which show the difference in the engine bay: https://i.imgur.com/0Im9lSk.jpeg On the left you can see the drier in the green circle, with associated pipework coming out. The compressor is down at the bottom of the engine on the left side (won't be able to...

Re: Radios - Troubleshooting and Repair

A brief part II for this thread - another radio landed on my desk, and it's another VC963. Customer states intermittent lack of audio in the left channel. Decided to go straight inside this one rather than test as after last time I have a good idea about where the problem will be. https://i.imgur.co...

Re: Calling all GT owners

Keep me informed and/or get in touch with via the usual channels if you need any more eyes on the ground. The 'holding tank' is about 10 minutes from me in one direction (not really much to see there these days) and Weston Manor about 15 minutes in the other, in fact I drive past the entrance once a...

Re: In search of rear bumper (metal piece)

I recently fitted one of bartek4's fibreglass bumpers (thread linked by James) so I can vouch for their quality. I'll see if I can sort some pictures in due course, but fundamentally imagine your bumper bar except without all the rust and holes, and obviously made of fibreglass so it'll never rust a...

It's a zebra connector - same as the digital clock as discussed here, with pictures: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36957

Re: LED headlamps

Like you say, its down to the tester on the day. I think that's a good way to sum up LED headlights in general. I have LED H7s in the high beam position on a couple of my other cars, but they happen to have separate bulbs for high and low beam. Both of them have gone through many MOTs with that con...

Re: CEM Speaker replacement?

I agree with Mandi - not much to go wrong with the piezo itself, but yet another point on the 480 electronics where dry joints can be an issue. I happen to have a CEM 1 on my bench, I imagine that an L-reg will be a CEM 3, but similar enough layout: https://i.imgur.com/rd4jEPT.jpeg The piezo sounder...

Any pads (should have mentioned copper pad rather than button) where a connection is made, in this case particularly the zebra strip but might as well clean up the buttons too: https://i.imgur.com/iHARgt6.png Very useful things in general for cleaning up PCBs. Would also be worth drenching the silic...

Bit late to this and I don't have one here to take apart to check, but does the screen use a zebra connector, which looks something like this picture from the internet: https://www.konlidainc.com/images/zebra-connector2.jpg (labelled here as 'inter-connector', enjoy the rest of the Chinglish as well...

Re: New Owner - 1992 Limited Edition

Check the door stays (metal arm by the hinges) - they may well have separated from the door itself, probably on the inside. Not uncommon on the driver's door, less so on the passenger side (purely based on frequency of door opening and closing). The fix usually involves some welding as the door stay...

Re: Instrument / Rev Counter / Speedo Repair

The blue thing I can't comment on as my reference early PCB is currently in a car for troubleshooting purposes, but are you certain it's not just a through-hole component mounted to the board? The four 'pins' are actually sockets, the pins being on the other side coming through from the gauge itself...

Google Images seems to be a bit hit and miss - sometimes I can view images like yours if I'm logged into my Google account in the same browser, but in this particular thread I can't. Best practice seems to be to follow Jeff's process, and ensure that you are embedding a url ending in 'something.jpg'...

June 10th pencilled in for me too. Gives me two and half months to get a car on the road again. Nice to have a target!
