window screen & rust !
All, Just a quick note to say that the top corners (left & right) of my window screen have developed small cracks over the last 6 months, which have slowly got larger until a "death crack" recently developed. Booked an appointment with "Autoglass" to ensure a trouble free insurance claim, only to be...

Re: new stainless steel exhaust
themaster, Just a quick update to say thanks for the advice on the Longlife exhaust, I managed to make some dodgy repairs to the exhaust to get it through the MOT last year & now could wait no more! Since getting it fitted a few weeks ago from Longlife I can advise that it works well & have got my m...

Re: Lumpy running below 2000 revs
every time i give me 480 a service, a proper clean of the throttle mech & idle control valve assembly is essential to ensure slow rev harmony.

new stainless steel exhaust
All, I've had me Volvo 480 for over a decade now & am realising how often I need to get a new backbox (too often). Would anybody here be able to recommend somebody to make a stainless steel exhaust from the catalytic converter backwards ? This is something I have two months to sort out (before my ne...

Re: Battery
Rachel, Whilst you should absolutely follow all the perfect advice here, you may find like me you end up getting nowhere & still have the battery drain problem. As a last ditch rubbish solution you could do as I did & fit a couple of earth straps to the engine area to restablish good earthing under ...

MOT passed!
All, The 480 just cruised thru it's MOT on the first attempt (for the fourth year in a row) ! Happy days, thanks to Glasgow Jim for the excellent parts a few months ago, which helped it happen. Some bad news though (depending on which side of the fence you are on), the MOT certificate has now been r...

Re: UK insurance
Richard, For me in central London, direct line insurance has come in at over £115 cheaper than the competion (for two years in a row). I'm beginning to find a few insurers which refuse to supply quotes to insure the car because if it's age (when I'm searching for cheaper quotes)- which I find really...

Re: mini subwoofers - underseat type
Yo,
I have no idea whether you could make that work. If I remember correctly the dude who installed mine added some extra wiring & a fuse to the fuse box to give it it's own dedicated supply.
Cheers,
Richard M Wade Esq.

Jim, Just a quick follow up message to say many thanks for that web site, once ordered they arrived well packed in no time at all, installation was easy (combined with what has become a regular 480 service for me (clean throttle & idle control valve, re-adjust hand brake, repair the rust on the bott...

Re: mini subwoofers - underseat type
Hi, When I got the car 10 years ago, it came with a Pioneer DEH-2030R CD/Radio which has always worked perfectly & I still use to this day, unfortunately the speakers grew to sound terrible, so at the recomendation of a friend I contacted Steve on 07787407521 (he has his own proper business for car ...

Re: mini subwoofers - underseat type
Tim, Last year I got my 480's sound system upgraded, Infinity spears to replace the stock door speakers & a pioneer sub that fits nicely under the drivers seat (TS-WX11A). A definite improvement. If you want advice on installation of the sub, then send me a message & I'll give you the name & number ...

boot support struts
All,
Mine are now totally knackered, me mechanic advises that these are around £50 each plus VAT plus 5 day delivery from Sweden.
Does this seem OK to you guys, or can you suggest an alternative?
Many thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.
Regards,
Richard M Wade Esq.

Derek,
Many thanks, I took a quick look this evening & think that I had better leave that one to my mechanic during it's upcoming 6 monthly service.
Kindest Regards,

Rear Wiper Question
All, I was wondering if you could advise what the problem is with my rear wiper. Intermitent fault. When activated it goes half across & does not return to the original position. Awesome timing of the switch in the cab can allow the return the blade OK, but kinda annoying. Do you think this is the s...

I find that a firm downwards thump to the top of the console quite excellently ensures that the light bulb out indicator reverts to its correct status.

Re: How to change over a seat catch
All,
I know it's cheating, but having pulled out the broken lever, inserting a cable tie into the mech correctly, and then attaching a curtain ring as a replacement latch at the other end does the job pretty well too!
Cheers,
Richard M Wade Esq.
