Headlight adjuster screws wanted

HI All, A couple of adjuster screws won't adjust any more as they have too much rust. They are discontinued on Scandix, is there anything to replace them from a different vehicle?. I found Golf mkII adjusters on ebay look a near perfect fit, but the seller says they are too short (4cm, need 6cm). Wo...

Re: Engine starts, then die, and will not start again

My 480 went through a period of randomly cutting out - usually on a busy roundabout. Wiggling the wires to the coil seemed to help, but didn't fix for long. Eventually I took the coil off the metal body - I think 2 T20 torx screws (Ignition off etc). There's some springy contacts - sort of look like...

Just run in

Original engine, never been apart. Gearbox replaced at about 205,000 - you have been warned!.
MPG not too bad, either (but does read 3 or 4mpg high).

Re: Wet seatbelt,in a non sunroof car, any suggestions??

Yes, but the list has increased now to 4 Exxys, and the latest addition to the stable is a 1967 Honda S800 (798cc, 4 carbs & 100MPH potential). Made a promise not to touch her until the other cars are all fettled! Ah fond memories. Got my first X1/9 (more or less) for free - had been sat in a garde...

Volvo 480 Convertible for sale

Spotted this on ebay .... item 180781327025. History looks a bit vague, it doesn't sound like one of the original volvo conversions. If anyone still has any money left ......

Re: A brief history of our 480

Failed MOT test this morning. Nothing too serious - front anti-roll bar drop links, one read drop link and handbrake efficiency. Would be easy enough to sort out but just don't have the time at the moment to do it myself. I'm ashamed with myself - I am letting a garage do this work which I could eas...

Re: B18U/B20Fchain driven oil pump engines?

Hi David, It is rare that a bearing is specific to an engine, more likely an engine designer looks through a catalogue of bearings and says that one will do. A good engine rebuilders should be able to find a generic bearing to suit. Take the shaft and bearing (and maybe the block) and they should be...

A brief history of our 480

Our 480 was bought new by my wife in 1992 - V5 shows no previous owners. It was delivered to our house on 31st July for a registration date of 1st August. She chose the Limited Edition in two tone green and silver, 1.7 litre ES. No airbags, no air con, no ABS. It suffered a few early niggles but not...

Re: Wanted: manual gearbox

Hi Jim. From my little knowledge, I thought they were all M50 but I always welcome being corrected!. The Europe 480 pages hint that the ratios are the same for a 1.7 and 2 litre but that conflicts with other eveidence on here. I've looked hard for a tag - either I've missed it or it's fallen/broken ...

Wanted: manual gearbox

Hi All

As title really, need a good working manual gearbox, please. North Essex / South Suffolk / South Cambs/East Herts borders area (sort of Saffron Walden / Haverhill/Cambridge/ Braintree /Bishops Stortford areas, or a few miles further).

Re: Bought the wrong radiator

You're right - the radiator is not difficult to change. The Bars Leaks gave up last week so I did the deed on Sunday. I picked up replacement bottom hose (which is different for narrow and wide rads). Had a bit of fun as the replacement rad didn't have a take-off for aux water pump but the replaceme...

Re: Info centre bulb

Try a good auto-electrical type place. I had to replace every bulb on the dashboard on one occasion. Hardest part was putting it all back together and trying to find the last screw when it falls into the dark recesses behind the dash!.

Re: I think its the engine temp. sensor-- can anyone confirm?

Hi James, My 480 had a similar thing a few years ago. Would be driving along when it would suddenly loose power for a few seconds then come back again. Could see black smoke behind the car as well. That was caused by the temperature sensor, well more accurately, the connector at the sensor. Seems li...

LOL - yeah, serves me right!. I'll give the local motor factors a ring in the morning (they all close on a Sunday round here) unless anyone has spare available.
