Re: I guess it's not ideal when stuff is spraying out?

It did all look really corroded, which was another thing which put me off. The old school mechanic at the garage seemed to have little regard for his boss (and warned me not to let him sell me stuff I didn't need!), but when he asked what his boss had charged me, even he seemed to think the final bi...

Re: I guess it's not ideal when stuff is spraying out?

Fixed! I paid a garage to do it as I didn't fancy crawling under the car and having petrol pour in my face: £34 all inclusive, which seemed fair enough!

Many thanks,
Rob

Re: I guess it's not ideal when stuff is spraying out?

Thanks Harriet,

I wondered about fuel but didn't think I'd smelled any - however I maybe didn't try very hard.

Can anyone indicate how big a job this is to sort out?

Thanks,
Rob

I guess it's not ideal when stuff is spraying out?

I'd love some help - I'm not at all knowledgeable about car gubbins. The initial problem which got me looking under the car was the exhaust. I fixed a hole in it, only to find another as soon as I fixed it. And another as soon as I fixed that. All in totally different places. Whereupon... Looking un...

Re: Dim dipped headlight (and running light)

Thanks folks. DRL bulb was initially blown, replaced before I posted the results above. Driver dipped beam was afflicted as it is now before & after DRL replaced. The old DRL bulb was a beast to remove, that corrosion/welding you get beween different metals. Lots of WD40 & a couple of cut fingers (y...

Dim dipped headlight (and running light)

Our driver's side dipped headlight is dim, and the same-side running light seems dim too. Full beam not dim. Have wiggled fuses and the main switch on the steering column. Oh (edit) have changed bulbs too. I'd really welcome any bright ideas (pun intended, sorry)... I never could understand this stu...

Re: ISO harness adaptor for CD?

Yet another update - I had to swap a few connections to get it working. On the Volvo the large spade Earth was standard, but after that seemed to be 12v constant not switchable, first small spade was 12v switchable, second small spade was auto-arial. It may work with those two 12v feeds swapped - I ...

Re: ISO harness adaptor for CD?

I'm now told I need a PC2-16-4 adaptor. Kudos to http://www.carstereos4u.co.uk - several other stockists looked at those connectors like a dog being shown a card trick...

ISO harness adaptor for CD?

My original cassette is decrepit so I'm putting in a CD player. Is there anywhere I can get an off-the-shelf adaptor from the venerable 480 connectors to modern ISO blocks? I've seen plenty online but none look to have this combination: long 4 pin for power (2 large pin, two smaller pin), 2x2 pin DI...

Thanks for the suggestion, Jim, I'll take my meter to it...

...but having thought on it... surely a fault with the dimmer couldn't explain the problem with dash backlighting when the headlights are off as the rheostat is out of circuit then unless there is some other fault?

Thanks, I was maybe a bit too brief in my explanation. The electronic info center feature means backlighting the 480 dash is essential in daylight if the info is to be readable. Of course it's double-essential at night, 'cos then even the speedo etc need lighting. My backlighting has stopped working...

Lights - rotary master switch

I'm inexperienced at reading vehicle circuit diagrams. I've tested the connections of the rotary lights switch in my 480 and would be grateful if y'all could advise me if the results are as they should be. There's one connection in particular I wonder might be shorted when it shouldn't be. The 6 pin...

Instrument panel backlighting?!

I've just taken ownership of an H-reg 480ES. There's a problem with the instrument backlighting which I'd be very grateful for help with. I've read all the posts I can find here, but none seem to cover my specific problem. Individual warning bulbs work, but none of the instrument backlighting or lig...
