It was a lay-by on the E35 (I seem to remember we were about half way through Switzerland by that time!). I see you're from Basel - we didn't actually stop there but that was the route we took to re-enter France (though we went the wrong way briefly toward Germany! The signs for "FRANCE" and "GERMAN...

Oh, and just some proof of its recent trip around Europe. The backdrop is part of the Swiss Alps, don't you know!

(I'm not just trying to show off - honest)

As promised, some photos of the car in question. These don't really show the full extent of the rust... the "lip" on the arch is virtually gone now. Anyone wanting to take this on as a project must be aware this is in need of attention. I'm not trying to put anyone off, I just want to be honest! Hav...

Hi Dom £300 was around what I was looking for - I will post some pictures tomorrow night if I get the chance. To get first gear, sometimes you have to come off the clutch in neutral and try again - really not that bad and anyone can obviously test drive it to check for themselves. Tax for a year ...

FOR SALE - White 480 ES, Birmingham *with pics* £200

Hi there I am due to be selling my 480 soon as I have been issued a company car and the insurance runs out at the end of the month. I'm not looking for a lot of money - I'd just like to see it go to a good home where it will get some use! It is a 1990 H reg currently residing in Birmingham. - White ...

Hi there

Just to let you know - I spoke to the guy at JCR supplies who sorted me with the regulator.

He agreed to replace the part and after fitting the new reg, voltage is back to around 14v. Hoping this was the issue and will just have to keep an eye on it for now.

Cheers,
James

Hi guys - sorry to drag up this old post. The battery has been overheating in my car - tested the voltage over the terminals and with the engine running, it's up to around 16v (which I understand is too high). Is this likely to be a fault with the alternator, the regulator or the battery? I'm suspec...

Spare wheel - where to get replacement?

Hi all I'm going away on hols tonight and stupidly left checking the spare wheel till now. It appears the valve has gone so got my friend to take it to kwik fit. Kwik fit say they can't replace the tyre - only Volvo will stock them. Is this correct? If it is, does anyone in brum (preferably south) h...

Yep - part arrived today at work and I fitted it up this evening. All appears to working as it should - getting over 14v on tick over and over 13.5v under load. Was running for a good 15-20 minutes without any issues :) I'm very happy for her to be back one the go. A big thanks to all who posted on ...

Cheers guys. Have ordered off eBay as the spares place I used said they would struggle to track down this part now (the only supplier they have other than Valeo themselves lists it as "obsolete"). The guy also said it would be unlikely to cost less than £20 if I did find it... So if this guy deli...

Scrap that - managed to prise the plastic cover back enough to remove the spade connector. Model number, for anyone's interest, is a Valeo YV1925.

Thanks to all for the help. I will post back when, hopefully, the issue is resolved.

Ted - spot on with the diagnosis. Removed regulator (partially at least) and one of the brushes is about half the length of the other. So thanks for the pointer! Now does anyone have a short guide on how to remove the blue cable?! I take it from Ben's post, it is necessary to take off the alternator...

Thanks for the advice Ted. Reading up on it, it would appear the regulator could be removed (as you suggest) without taking off the alternator. Will all new regulators come with new brushes (excuse my ignorance) and how likely is a spares centre to carry one in stock? I work just down the road from ...

Hmmm, yeah I believe the alternator has had it then. Tested with multimeter tonight, and the voltage started around 14v then dropped slowly. Now it is reading about 12v. Incidentaly, the battery light (with ignition on) is now NOT illuminating. It most definitely did last time I turned the ignition ...

Thanks to all for your response and interest in this thread. I'm away for a couple of days with work so diagnosis is on hold. Jim - I don't have a multimeter so may have to pick a cheap one up. Ted - from memory, the battery light was on with the ignition but I will double check and report back! The...

Hi all I jump started the car earlier tonight after charging for a couple of minutes. Started absolutely fine on the key. I left it running for a while to see how long it would take to run the battery down. However, it ran indefinitely with all electrical items I could think of. So I presume the bat...
