It always surprised me that the latest 480s weren't given a 2.0 16v engine.

The fact that they had to "give up street racing" shows that he isn't worthy of a licence in the first place.

Mine was a 2.0ES. Was it in Paris Blue? :D

Sorry for going off topic, it's a novelty to find another 480 enthusiast in the vicinity :D.

Personally, as I absolutely loathe the BMW 1 series, and I really love seeing older classics in showroom condition, I would say that restoring the 480 turbo is the most satisfying route to take.

Good luck with your search. I'm in Northampton too and in my ownership of 11 months saw just 2 other different 480s.

That said, I've seen 3 others in the past two weeks, so it looks like they're being brought out for....winter?

Weird.

Not really; joined Aug. 2008 so relatively new. Has posted quite a bit though; 160 posts.
My apologies, I keep forgetting this forum has been around since 2003.

I echo glasgowjim's sentiments, but I'd also expect some flak for expressing ideas on a 480 enthusiasts forum! Speak about any ideas to alter the looks of a car (in any way, minor or major) on a forum where the majority are hardcore fans of that car, and you will of course receive some negative feed...

I think murf's car is spot on. I'd choose white five spokes (Comp Mos) or something but I like them too. Colour is ace too.

I don't think any sane person wants to go down that route .

I just find it hard to understand the concept of taking a rare, uniquely designed car, and applying modifications to it that can quite easily be found on a host of VWs/Corsas etc.

It's all very well developing 170bhp standard, but personally I'd rather that power be available at 2000-5000rpm rather than 7500rpm onwards. The dub/Euro can just about suit some VWs. 480s are one of the few cars (along with the Mk1 MR2), that cannot be improved styling wise. They should be left al...

The good thing about the 8v engines is that they are really torquey. I remember my 2.0 being able to accelerate from 10mph in 3rd without any complaining.

And it's only when you hit the higher revs that you get a bit of a kick in the back. :D

I can see your quandry Esta, it is tricky. I would start your eBay auction at the very, VERY lowest you would consider accepting for your car, and have no reserve or BIN. It will save on cost. I did this with a Rover 825 with a blown headgasket, started it at £150, and it went for £185! Autotr...
