Broken sunroof

When I bought my 480 I knew the sunroof was broken. I have since trawled though the history with it and found a garage report on it. It states that they removed the headlining etc and found that the linkage was broken. They apparently didnt fix it though and just put the car back together again. Is ...

Sorry for the vague nature of the original post.

it is the indicator/sidelight cluster I am replacing which wraps around the front corner of the car above the bumper.

They are also clear lenses I am installing, but my car has clear lenses already as it is a 95 model.

Front indicator replacement

I have ordered a new pair of front indicators and pick them up later today. How easy are they to replace?

I will be getting a Haynes manual at some point, but would rather get the new ones fitted this weekend, weather permitting.

Cheers

I spoke to my local main dealer again at 10.30 this morning and ordered a new set of front indicators/sidelight clusters. £71.44 for the pair, and I can pick them up this afternoon!

Going to be a busy weekend I think.

An update so soon!

Just ordered two new heater control knobs from my local main dealer. They will be ready to collect tomorrow morning! Excellent.

The unnamed 480

Every day I drive past a fairly large Ford main dealer in the town where I work and normally have a quick look at their part exchange cars while I wait for the train to pass (they are right next to a level crossing). About three weeks ago a flame red 480ES appeared and at the time I thought ‘H...

Do you have a name for your 480?

I was wondering if any other members called their cars by name and how their names came about?

I have only ever named one car, my 1997 S40 2.0TSE was called Trevor - it just sort of fit.

Not yet named the 480 - I haven't even decided if it is male or female yet.

I have a feeling I may have paid over the odds slightly, but I got it from a garage I know well who took my Mondeo in exchange for it, no cash changed hands. It 'cost' me £1100.

:D

My wife has the 480 so she can go and get a spare key cut for me.

She has also been despatched to Halfrauds to stock up on half of the Autoglym range.

Tyre Novice

First of all, apologies for asking some basic questions, but I really have no idea when it comes to tyre sizes. 1. My 480 has Taurus alloys on it - am I right in thinking these are 15 inch diameter? I would go and check, but my wife has my car today and I am using her Skoda. 2. At the moment I have ...

Skoda - no jokes please

Not at all Volvo related, but my wife picked up her new car at the weekend - a 2001 Skoda Octavia estate. I have to say I am very impressed with it. It is huge inside, comfortable, well equipped and significantly cheaper than the equivalent Golf on which it is based. I like it so much I have driven ...

Repairing missig lacquer

Hi all

My new 480 is mostly great - i havent found any visible rust on her yet. She does however have have a few spots of lacquer missing from the nearside A pillar and drivers door. How do I repair this? I have never done any bodywork repairs before and so am completely new to it.

Cheers

Keys

I have just bought my first 480 and it only has one key.

I'm not sure if 480 keys have any electronics in them. Do I have to go to Volvo to get a second one cut, or can any key cutting shop do it?

Cheers

Not sure whether to start a new thread or continue in this one.

I had a look on Parkers before I bought my 480 and it gave performance and economy figures for a 2.0 manual but not for the Auto. Anyone know roughly what to expect?

My geography let me down a bit - I thought Stratford was a lot further south than that. They must have moved it when I wasn't looking.

I will try to get there, but it does look a little too far.

Hi I'm Jimmy from Blandford in sunny Dorset. I pick up my first 480 this afternoon (4pm cannot come quickly enough!). It is a 1995 M 480ES 2 litre Auto in Flame Red. 81k on the clock and not a spot on rust anywhere (that I can see). Only problem I know of is the sunroof - it will not work at all, bu...
