My 480ES is exactly the same, the lamps you're talking about I normally call the driving lamps. The main beam works fine but to flash someone I have to turn the headlights on and off again. TBH with all the complicated electronics in the car its the least of my worries.

Funnily enough thats why I moved to a 3hp compressor too, I had a 2.5hp with a 20lt tank and it was suitable for most things but not when a long constant air supply was needed, I needed to DA sand a VW bus which was the crunch time for mine. I sold my little compressor on ebay and got peanuts for it...

I'd also change the the tensioner pulley too, one broke on my engine and did exactly the same damage as the cam belt going pop!

4 new valves skimmed head later and all put back together even doing it myself it cost a fair whack!

If you're taking it out piece by piece then the gearbox is the next logical step, take that off then it almost halves the weight of the assembly and makes getting the rest of the block out much much easier. As a suggestion Stanford Hall is quite central in Leicestershire and is a lovely venue, but from what I've seen there's an awful lot of 480's in Scotland so perhaps somewhere further north may be better?

I just get two huge great screws and drive them through the side and bottom of the cat to hold it in place. to stop it rattling!

Hi Adam yes the engines in good condition, but because its an automatic it brings along another set of problems, like the flywheel not having a support bearing for the gearbox layshaft.
