480 Turbo 1994 Green, 84k - London

Currently on my drive on SORN - a project that, with twins arriving in a few weeks, will realistically not get finished! We've had the car since March 2007 and had no bother with it, no breakdowns and everyhting sems to work well with the engine/turbo. We had a new timing belt fitted July 2007, and ...

MOT Fail - subframe

Ah, the news no-one wants to hear.. our lovely 94 turbo has failed due to excessive corrosion on the subframe, don't have full details yet but the garage is saying beyond economic repair. If I get hold of a second hand frame in good condition and clean it up and treat it etc, what sort of job is it ...

Offered - Volvo sealing strip for rear clusters

We've just replaced our rear clusters and one of the chaps at Braydon Motors dug out some original Volvo seals, despite my insistence that I didn't need them! They still have the backing tape on them, are good and sticky but they've obviously been in storage for a while so they may not be in mint co...

I heart our 480 - and I heart this forum

Feeling a little emotional tonight... have been spending some of my Easter break doing long awaited jobs in the luxury of a driveway (having to dodge traffic in our narrow London street and keep an eye on my tools isn't much of an inducement to get under the bonnet). It's just over 2 years since we ...

wanted - rear clusters

have been sorting out some rust at the edges of the rear clusters - one came off cleanly but the other had had some fairly aggressive sealant added at some point and fell to pieces on the way out. it was a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea though as the patch of rust needed sorting. any...

WANTED - nearside mirror housing

Ideally in dark green metallic - just the front and rear plastic with all tabs etc intact. Or a matching pair in black until I track down a green one? Any leads/suggestions welcome!

Hey Sam... welcome to the board. hope you're having fun with the car... We went to Braydon Motors http://www.braydonmotors.co.uk in the end - very friendly and helpful. Labour is £50 per hour but they know the cars well. It's 5 minutes from Stoke Newington High Street so it's easy to get into tow...

sadly have run out of time to finish the job today, but got the motor apart and sure enough the contacts were very dirty - also there's some serious pitting on the main disc where the contacts were sitting. someone has done the same job on it before me - while i thought it looked newer than the othe...

all credit to John and Mart - it was the motor.

time for a cup of tea and then attempt to dissemble it and clean up those contacts ;)

ok, i'll try swapping the motors round today. i was reasoning that the positional feedback part was working as, although i'm intervening at the relay, i'm only dabbing the armature into the closed position - it is then held there by the relay until the up/down move has finished, when it disengages a...

thanks for the reply and photos. i think the contacts are fine in the motor as the unit will pop up and stop in the fully open position if you tap the relay armature - the relay engages until the light is fully up, just like on the properly working side. same goes for lowering it. we've never had an...

hi John,

sadly, they are the correct bulbs: one of the first things i found out on here when we first looked at the headlight problem! the wrong bulbs had been fitted so I was convinced it would sort us out: imagine my disappointment when it made no difference...

reaching end of tether with pop-up problem!

have had a frustrating afternoon finally trying to get to the bottom of our pop-up problem. offside light does not rise to the occasion. have stripped and cleaned the DRL bulb holders and connectors, fitted new DRL bulbs, swapped the relay for a known working one courtesy of VanDerGraaf (cheers!) al...

Decent garage in London

We have a few bits and bobs we need to get sorted on our Turbo (we are LOVING it by the way). Anyone know any garages in London who won't rip us off/suck their teeth/roll their eyes at the sight of a 480? We are new to the world of cars having only owned a knackered camper van, so are starting compl...

We have a few things on our lovely lovely 480 Turbo that need fiddling with. And that may involve welding, which we can't do... Does anyone know of a good, reliable 480-friendly garage in London, or nearish? Doesn't have to be an official Volvo one. Just a friendly place that won't rip us off or sne...
