CEM II, rear cluster, indicator, stalk, other bits on eBay
Hi there, I've just listed on eBay a handful of leftover bits and bobs from my time owning a Volvo 480. You'll see listed: offside indicator cluster without daylight running lens: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270727710989&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT CEM II central electric modu...

Did anyone spot this 480 on telly on New Year's Day?
Not strictly speaking the usual 'Spotted!' fodder, but I never got around to posting this at the time, and thought people might like to see a 480 immortalised as an imitation of a DeLorean (!) on the BBC News channel's 'Show Me The Money': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx4Dajtp59E Sadly with an exp...

'famous'(!) Volvo 480 turbo automatic 1989 for sale
Hi there, as our family is expanding, sadly the time has finally come to part company with my 1989 automatic Volvo 480 turbo, on a G-plate. MoT til January 2012, and it's in pretty good nick, with lots of work done in the last year. All the details are on the link, if anyone is interested in bidding...

Re: I think I need an electrician with Volvo expertise-know any?
Thanks Jim, I've checked all the fuses a couple of times. I wonder where the intermittent wiper relay is for a CEMII, as the new CEM should have sorted that if it was in the same place. The new engine temp sensor is one that you sold me actually, in which case it must be the info centre? Or a dodgy ...

I think I need an electrician with Volvo expertise-know any?
Six months ago I overhauled my 1989 Volvo 480 turbo automatic. There were still a bunch of electrical problems to fix, and a volvo specialist in worcester park recommended a new CEMII, which I finally got around to buying last week. My local garage's auto electrician fitted it, and says it had no im...

Re: relay layout
Hi setay, I think you'll find that the relays which control the indicators etc are located in the CEM, which is a semi-computerised control module inside the left side of the left cockpit footwell (passenger side in the UK). There is quite a bit of advice on how to get at it, but my last post is mos...

Last few problems - mostly electrical - advice please!
Hi all! Firstly thanks so much to folk who have responded to my many and varied queries in recent weeks. The car is looking better than it has for more than a decade. It's driving well as well. We probably would have binned it months ago, if not for encouragement and advice from you guys. Whilst I'v...

Re: Removing the cem
Checked both the fuses on the 26-fuse box with any reference to wiper, but both fine. My other half would love the option of intermittent wipers, so if anyone has any ideas on how to
fix that feature, they'd be greatly received!
Presumably it involves swapping out the cem?
Thanks

Re: Restoration update - wind noise and bodywork scratches
Thanks all for you tips. Sunroof was fixed in about an hour by replacing those plastic pins. Can't believe my sunroof was taped shut with gaffer tape for several years thanks to such an easy problem to fix! Will be interesting to see whether I have fixed the wind noise at the same time. I think it's...

Re: Weird engine shut-off problem
I got to the bottom of all this in the end. Engine revving problem was cured with a thorough clean of the idle control valve. Engine start problem was cured when I disconnected the autobox start inhibitor switch. It seems when the gearbox heated up, it melted the solder on the connections, and short...

Nearside rear cluster available
It's not in perfect nick, but after I destroyed my old offside cluster, which definitely needed replacing, I decided to seal the old one on the other side, so have the second half of the pair I bought going spare. The available cluster was chipped on the left edge as the guy I bought it from took it...

Re: Bodywork issues - advice please!
Thanks all for your tips and advice. I spent much of today sorting bodywork issues and it IS amazing what you can do to bumpers with a can of spray paint and lacquer! All sorted now. Even that rust afflicted edge by the windscreen looks half acceptable, and infinitely better than how it was...

Bodywork issues - advice please!
Hi folks, I've got four issues with my metallic black 480's bodywork. Any advice on how best to handle the issues would be greatly received! The trickiest issue is this rust patch on the roof near the windscreen. My own fault for taping up some wind whistling rubber... There is some play in the rust...

Re: Removing the cem
Thanks jim - I thought you said there was a fuse that had blown on the intermittent wiper. Is that one of the standard fuses?
Also did you say you have a spare horn, or is it sold now?
Best wishes,
J

Removing the cem
I have a couple of problems that glasgowjim has suggested could be fixed with fuses in the cem. That's great! Only problem is getting the cem out... I've removed kick plate and bonnet catch cowl, and can remove the connector and bottom two screws. Problem is that I can't reach the top screw, or even...

Re: Restoration update - wind noise and bodywork scratches
Thanks both. So, I have a turbo - how much does that complicate the temp sensor? And where can I get one? I also have the old model front fog light. Will post a request. On the bodywork it is a metallic sadly - thanks for suggestion to touch up then cut back! Good idea. And yes, I realise there will...

Restoration update - wind noise and bodywork scratches
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to get on with restoring my 480. It is driving surprisingly well, and looking better each week. My original post was here: http://www.thelair.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=18700&start=0 most of the issues are fixed, worked around or going to be sorted this we...
