FOR SALE - f reg Turbo breaking - must get rid of quick

My turbo is too far gone, so I'm bowing out of 480 ownership and offering it for breaking: The engine has a blown head gasket and is nigh on dead, the bodywork is pants so bear this in mind. I need to keep the wheels so the scrappy man can roll it onto his truck. anything else is available - pop up ...

FOR SALE switches and stuff

I've got a little box full of 480 junk to dispose of (haven't we all?). So does anybody fancy:

Instruments from an '89 turbo. Speedo doesn't have any paint peel. Missing a few bulbs.

Headlight switch

Hazard switch

2 x Infocentre switches

Foglamps/Heated Screen switch panel

Blower switch

managed to get the headlamp out and got at it from behind (ooer ;)) can't get the drls to work anyway, as soon as you lower the pop ups after putting a bulb in they just tug the connector out. So after all that I just disconnected them both for the time being. I had the weekend off as far the turbo'...

Yeah I gave the thing a test drive - fell in love with 'boost' and that clouded my judgement a fair bit. I new about the bodywork but I know a man who'll sort that out for £100 quid each rear arch. So I thought, wow, nearly a perfect turbo. This month I can sort one arch out, next month I'll sort t...

What to do? My Turbo is a lemon.

Just a kind of 'covering letter' to explain my recent posts. My turbo was bought almost in desperation, which is a lesson I have already learnt twice with VW beetles. Need a car, dont want a fiesta, buy the 480 now. I'm sure I'm not the first person on the site to make this mistake. So, why is it a ...

Removing indicator / drl cluster

Should be easy, shouldn't it... but then it is a 480... Drivers one comes off no probs but passenger side will not budge. Its binding on the driving lamp, the two are very close together. The normal method of striking it on the corner doesn't want to work and I'm using more force than I'd lik...

93 2.0l is the B20F - AFAIK the fuelling & ignition are controlled by the same ecu on this engine. It should have a diagnostic port mounted on the left hand strut tower - doing a search for 'fault codes' will tell you all about this and how to use it. I think it allows you to test the CEM as well bu...

The previous owner had a go with ptfe tape on this, one - i think the holes are now even bigger!

current cure is velcro, works fine unless you're my girlfriend and slam the door shut :dispute:

Well if I get time after I change the thermostat tomorrow then I'll have a go.

I'll get me one of those 'bleed-easee' kit things from Halfrauds as well.

bleeding them sounds dangerous - would you guys do it yourselves or take it to a garage and let them fire brake fluid through brick walls  ?

If I'm going to get this thing RichMod'd I'd like decent brakes so any advice for upgrading them or is the standard setup competent enough?

Door Cards

Does anybody else have a problem getting the fabric insert to stay in the door card?

Both my 480's have suffered from them falling off at the back of the door.

crap brakes

I've found my brakes a bit on the crap side since I bought the turbo - they're certainly not as good as on my previous ES. So last night I tested my ABS and hey presto its not working. The light comes on as it should on start-up, then goes out after 30secs or so. On heavy application of the brakes t...

Solved

Was a massive airlock.

Turns out that the hot/cold switch is electric despite looking and feeling like the 480's cable type slider. The system was drained and filled with this set to hot but since the ignition was off it was still 'cold'.

Lots of topping up later it runs fine.

How would I go about pressure testing the rad - in particular what sort of pump would I have to use?

There is no Haynes for this car unfortunately...
