Re: wheel arch covers

Get 'em repaired properly! Like these

It might cost a few £/€/$, but it'd be worth it.

Re: Several electrical problems

I'd have a look at the 80 amp mega-fuse. It's above the radiator near the alternator in a black plastic housing. It's like a giant bladed fuse. If I remember rightly it's not clear though, so you will need a multi-meter to test it. Don't ask me for the correct values because I don't remember them! D...

Paris Blue '91 480 Turbo

Hi people... Well, since leaving the 480 world, i've not been here at all really. Having a house leaves me little time to peruse forums etc  However, I've been hankering after a 89/90 440 Turbo for a while now, and whilst they seem to be rarer than rocking horse poo, I did find this whilst sear...

Re: Crackling bass

As if! Glad you have sourced the problem. With regards to re-wiring, it depends.... Do you want to run all the speakers off the amp, or keep them running of the headunit? If they are aftermarket speakers, i'd upgrade the wire anyway, but thats just me! If you're not too fussed about access, this was...

Re: Crackling bass

It may just be that at low volumes it's not noticeable... It could be a dodgy contact somewhere. eitherway, replacing the wiring (as much of an arse as it is) should cure the problem I would have thought. I don't think a bad earth would affect it to be honest... I know how important tunage is in the...

Re: Crackling bass

I feel your pain Rach! From memory, you do do exactly that. It is a bit of a pig when you're down in the footwell mind you... And if I remember correctly, it's also a pain in the rear to get the plastic trim back on that's near your feet (the part where the bonnet release is!). I found getting a pip...

Thanks for the kind words guys... The reserve was set at £1300, and the auction ended at £1220. However, in true eBay style, none of the bidders have been in-touch despite being offered 'second chance' offers. No surprise there really. It was advertised on www.carandclassic.co.uk, and yesterda...

Hi guys. The world of 480 doesn't grip me as much as it once did. I'm enjoying having a life and money to spend  As you're well aware, my 480 sold some time back, but my Dad is now going to sell his. He cant justify a shopping trip and the occasional journey for the road tax and insurance anym...

Ah-ha! An OBD2 connector is what I was looking for. I knew about the unit on the suspension, it read 1-1-1, which is why I needed to know if there was another plug on the car somewhere... As it turned out, the car is sorted! :D Dad popped the bonnet after trying a few other things, but no joy. So, h...

Ok, cheers guys. We've been to my Uncles garage, and he has a diagnostic system. He said he can check the car IF it has an external diagnostic plug in the engine bay somewhere. Does the 480 have such a thing somewhere? I know there's the little black box by the top of the suspension, but surely it's...

Right... Taken all the pipes off again today to check for splits... None. We also checked the shaft on the turbo, and that is fine: it's spinning freely and slows to a stop freely. I made an error in my original posting: after taking it out again today, the noise we used to get on gear change from t...

Word... JT! :) Thats one thing we didn't check: to see if the shaft was spinning freely. What sort of resistance should we expect? I guess just no resistance at all and for it to stop freely without suddenly just stopping? I did check the wastegate by hand and it is free, no question. I did wonder w...

Hi people! Long time no posty! No, I don't have a 480 again (too much emotional hard-work!), but my Dad still has his. Just a few brief details of it: 1991 Manual Turbo, 74k on the clock, standard ECU. He's having issues with the Turbo at the moment. I've taken it out for a drive to get my own feel ...

Hi people. Right-small confession-I have the ownership details incorrect! Still only 3 owners, but it goes like this: Bought at a Volvo dealer in Norwich by a company that used to take clients out etc. This was done for approx 8k miles. It was then bought by a Doctor who had it for ages, then my Dad...

There is also a box of spares which include a pair of orange indicators/repeaters/rear markers, window motor (can't remember which side), Turbo dials, pair of front fogs, switches/relays etc. There's also a roller blind, but h...

1991 480 Turbo, 75k, Paris Blue, Manual

Hi people. My Dad's seriously considering selling his 480. He say's it's a shame for it to be sitting in the garage, only going to Asda once a week, with maybe one or two long trips in a month. I was hoping to inherit it, but as a property is top of the priorities, I can't be thinking about another ...

There's two Mk2 Golf's round here in red that have been dropped to the floor, and both have steels that look identical to that...I did wonder if they were some sort of alloy as I've never seen them up-close, but now I know. One has a glossy black set, the other a matte black with fine red pin-stripe...
