Re: What's this piece?

Hi. I don't know what they are, but my guess would be that they are off-cuts from some rubber off a different car, that someone was trying to make into widow scrappers. That's the rubber at the bottom of the door windows. Under the yellow and red is it sticky tape ? Do your window scrappers look or...

What's this piece?

Don't suppose anyone here knows what these are and what these are for? They've been in the door pocket of the car since I bought it and have never been sure where they're supposed to go (or if they're even for the car) https://i.postimg.cc/pLHYptXJ/IMG-20240204-145026.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/52dpLC...

Re: My 480s so far!

Do you mean the rotary light switch on the dashboard? I have a sluggish drivers side light and want to get it sorted. That's the one! Give it a bit of tug and it'll come out There's a few spade connectors on the opposite side, I just cleaned them up, stuck it back in and violà https://i.postimg.cc/...

Re: My 480s so far!

I've had a recurring problem with one of my headlights since I've bought the car, originally I assumed it was the motor which did bugger up and die a while back so it got replaced but the headlight started getting sluggish again recently and would only go up if I physically pulled it up a bit , so t...

Headlight gas strut

Anyone know where would be the best place to get new gas struts for the headlights? Mine has started getting lazy and needs a little push or pull to go up and down now
I've only managed to find one site overseas and wondering if anyone knows of any uk sites that might have some?

Re: My 480s so far!

Nothing exciting to say today but actually took notice of the milage and noticed I've almost made it to 55000miles which would mean I've driven the car about 10000 miles! Not bad for only owning the car a bit over a year! https://i.postimg.cc/Wz5LQX21/IMG-20231124-221303.jpg It amazes me that lookin...

Re: Heated seat wiring

Also, it is nigh on guaranteed that the wires on the lower seat pad to the thermostat will be broken. I had mine out last week and attempted a repair, it lasted about two arse cheeks before coming out again. Will be attempting a cheapo eBay retrofit tomorrow as the 480 is doing another week of dail...

There's two heated pads, one in the backrest, one in the base.

Those wires look like they've pulled out from the multi plug - check the wiring underneath the seat
Definitely from the pads, ends are soldered and the other end still in the plugs!

Heated seat wiring

Noticed the other day that the wording from under the driver's seat and come out, now I presume that this is for the heated seats, now judging by the other seat it looks like they're just soldered to the metal bar that holds the seat cloth down but I'm not quite sure, could anyone confirm this for m...

Re: My 480s so far!

Had a go at welding up the wheel arch today as the sun was out, after sanding back turns out A LOT of hidden rust under all that under seal 😩 https://i.postimg.cc/pX5NGhfQ/IMG-20231028-141219.jpg So cut and peeled the outer layer to obviously reveal more rust!, so sanded down the best I could and pa...

Looking good!

Might want to tighten the bolt on that rear wiper!

Or delete it entirely…
I have been thinking about getting rid of it and making a rear louver for the car, but that's still just a idea currently 😁

Re: My 480s so far!

Was keeping my fingers crossed for a dry day today but unfortunately luck wasn't on my side BUT my paint cans turned up so i did manage to finish the paint on the other half of the car before it started raining, and I have to say it's not perfect but I'm a big fan of imperfection! If it was pristine...

Re: Heaters starting to sound dodgy

I've noticed the floor on the passenger side has got all wet again, it's definitely water so I thought maybe it's the something to do with the fan? So I've pulled all the carpet up and it's soaked so I've pulled the drain plugs out to try drain the worse out and went about pulling all the underside...

That roughly translates to “product review…..paint control card type 480”

My guess is that was left over from production at the factory, probably by accident. Especially seeing as that’s Dutch language.

How interesting! Little bit of history for it then 😂

Re: Heaters starting to sound dodgy

Can confirm that it was this piece of paper that was making the weird noise! 😂 not quite sure how steering effected it but with it now removed the fan sounds normal again!
Not sure how it got there but looks like it's been there a while 🤔

Re: Heaters starting to sound dodgy

It shouldn't..... I've found that 99% of the time, pulling the heater out, scooping all the dead leaves and crap out, then putting some fresh grease on the the fan bearing gives a wonderfully silent, non-squeeking heather blower. Its about an hours work. It's weird, sounds almost like a plastic bag...

Re: Coloured headlight surrounds

Painted headlight surrounds were standard on all models until 1989 when they were dropped in favour of black unpainted ones (due to cost-cutting by Volvo). Lots of other things were taken out of the cars such as the under-bonnet dome light, footwell courtesy lights and second rear fog light to name...
