Re: I want to upgrade my sound system - What are my options?

Hello, have now found the CD changer RC-026 but unfortunately no connection cable with it. Was told it functions all ok but will check it out by connecting it into the boot of my 480 once the rain pauses. Surprising there is still a hosepipe ban in place ! Also found a Volvo radio cassette player C...

Re: Anyone managed to fit 8" wheels?

I don't think the size of the alloys would be the problem, but more the tyres you would mount on them. I read a while back on here that anything more than a 205mm width tyre is potentially going to rub against the body on full lock. Remember that the stud pattern is 4x100 when looking at wheels :D

WANTED: Mudflaps (front and/or rear)

Hi all, I've wanted to get a set of original mudguards for my car for a long time, but now winter is here, I want to see if I can get some sooner rather than later as the underside of the rear bumper has been eaten away from years of stone chips and salt grains hitting it. I'd prefer a full set, but...

Another Paris Edition for sale

https://www.autoscout24.es/anuncios/-0131134a-d6f6-42ef-87ab-5566ea6cb520 Before anyone gets too excited, its not in the UK. It's a LHD example being sold in Spain. Still think it's worth a post due to their sheer rarity. Interesting spec, as it has optional aircon and boot roller, but no heated sea...

engine mounts on their way out?

Hi all, I think my engine mounts are on their way out. Sometimes when I let of the clutch a little to far the dashboard starts shaking itself to pieces and the steering wheel vibrates. Also when accelerating the gear stick reminds me of a rattle snake's tail (which I think is another indication of w...

Re: William's 1993 480ES Two-Tone

1 year ownership update So, it turns out that yesterday marked the 1 year anniversary of me getting my 480. Not only is it my first 480, but it was also my first car! Looking back on previous posts, some of my earlier aims, such as getting it 'near concourse' by this time are rather amusing I'll ad...

He never intended to make money from selling parts, rather they would have been made available to this community as needed free of charge. Hmm Fantastic work David, I thought R3 was going to be a gonner for a second! She’s a very nice example of an early car. Looks almost identical to Ben’s 480 as ...

Re: and then there were 9...... (rescue cars that is)

In regards to the mismatched wheels, I believe the Aviors are the originals. I think 1991 was the last year for the Pollux’s. Alternatively, you could upgrade to a set of 15” Taurus wheels (there’s a set on Marketplace I believe). Would look really nice with the Paris Blue paint!

Re: Rescue Car: R3

I am quite puzzled - why would you scrap (in your own words) a ‘virtually rust free solid car’? Although I don’t have any part to play in the forum rescue group, I am well aware of just how much effort, time and money so many members put in to keep these cars on the road. I hope there was a bloody g...

Re: The joys of 480 ownership

I had the same issue as you a couple months back when I went to MOT mine. Failed on a lot of stuff, and got advisories for stupid things like surface rust on the rear axle and ‘welding work’ that had been done to a good standard anyway. Took it home, fixed only the rear brake issue and it passed at ...

Re: Rescue car: R7 - black 2 litre ES Auto

Interesting find! In regards to it being an S, Iam positive it is an ES model for a couple of reasons. The first being that the 2.0 engine was exclusive to the ES until the 1995 model year, when the S finally got it as well for the last few months of production. Another giveaway will be that R7 has ...

Ah, so you have the B20 engine so the eBay one technically won’t do.
All 1992 model year TT's were 1.7s, so Gapples will be the B18EP. The B20F didn't appear on the TT until 1993.

Well, its back on eBay for an astonishing £1,650 after failing to sell for less than half that last month.
I wonder if the winning bidder was a typical eBay timewaster or a genuine buyer who then realised how dishonest the seller was upon collection...

Re: Scrappage scheme

Here is the raw data from the government website regarding the 480s that were scrapped. The number at the end of each row is the number of each scrapped. Bear in mind, this only goes off of what was on the V5 at the time, so trim levels such as the Two-Tone and Paris Editions in particular will be a...

It does seem a little strange that it doesn't have an MOT, considering the condition it's in and the price its estimated to go for. However, I don't think it would take much to pass one (I'm sounding like the seller here ) Condition wise, it looks nothing short of pristine, at least from where ...

Cruise Control - how feasible?

Hi all, So I’ve seen for sale an original 400 series Cruise Control stalk, and it got me thinking whether if the rest of the kit can still be found easily at a (fairly) cheap price? The seller clearly knows what he has, as he’s not exactly selling it for pennies! I’m told that the stalk itself is by...
