Re: NO Headlamp flash with lamps retracted! Help :-)

Hello everyone, I now understand that my suspicions were right - I have the exact same problem and was wondering if it was normal or not (on my first car, a Renault 4, you had to switch the high beam on and off, I thought that perhaps this was somehow a variation on the same theme). I am interested ...

3200 CHF (2500 GBP) for this S. Good deal?

Good morning everyone, so a new entry has appeared over here in Switzerland (I think we have 2 per month on average): https://anibis.ch/fr/d-automobiles-voitures-de-tourisme--113/volvo-480-s-youngtimer-mit-mfk--37994522.aspx Aug 2020 Swiss MOT (good for at least 2 years), everything is promised to w...

Re: A Review of the 480 - By Yours Truly

Nice, thank you! Indeed I think this car is one of best, in terms of price / safety / rarity / community trade-off, for starting out with a classic car. I think I am a little lucky with my exemplar, as most issues were either absent or were broadly fixable by myself, despite quasi zero initial exper...

Re: Paint correction, cut & polish

Good morning all, many thanks for your nice comments! And @jifflemon as you can see I followed your advice and got myself a DA polisher. Now I just need to resell my unused non DA polisher. Next step: I have bought a dose of Armor Shield IX DIY Kit from Avalonking, for my ceramic coating project. Th...

Re: Rear light cluster queries

I have never tried, but WD-40 can apparently « defrost » temporarily. Not sure whether you want an MOT inspector with a good sense of smell though... Apart from that I have a Meguiar kit with sandpaper and a polish as well as a polishing pad for a power drill. I have only used the polish on my 480 (...

Re: Paint correction, cut & polish

So I did the job! Here is the result: https://ibb.co/QCWknYn Not a very eloquent picture, but the car's paint is really refreshed, it looks much newer than before. People I have shown it to are impressed :-) In the end the whole job took me around 7 hours: - Close to 2 hours at the high pressure was...

Re: Switzerland: 14500 GBP for... well...??

So, the same car is still around, but its price gets reduced in a quite systematic way. We are down to 12500 CHF (10100 GBP): https://www.comparis.ch/carfinder/marktplatz/details/show/26988115 It may turn out to be an interesting gauge of the "market" here, as it seems that the seller really wants t...

Re: Paint correction, cut & polish

Thanks Jeff and 100 for your comments. Yes, I bought the polisher before really looking into the subject, now I would buy a DA, also because well-rated ones on Amazon are not necessarily expensive. As for the result, Pebble Beach is a bit far from Geneva and I am a fan of "good enough" in every situ...

Paint correction, cut & polish

Evening everyone, So a key moment of my endeavours is nearing: paint correction. Magnus is a 1990 ES in original Superwhite. The paint is ok overall, but certainly duller now than 31 years ago. There were 3-4 minor rust points which I have treated (not perfectly, but definitely an improvement) with ...

Re: 1989 Grey being dismantled

Classic! :bla: I found the crack can be rectified by sticking some heavy duty tape on the inside. If this is insufficient I may explore going about mending it with modelling techniques In fact I have repaired mine (big piece completely broken off) with a piece of Plexiglas and plastic glue. But as ...

Re: 1989 Grey being dismantled

Hi kenthesweep, I live in Switzerland so it would be a bit complicated (but I am really not in a hurry and have relatives in the UK) - but I could be interested in a right hand side (driver side in the UK) door pocket... if it is not already cracked of course. PS. Thank you! PPS. Against payment of ...

Re: Rear left footwell wet

Someone here wrote the very good advice to check where the leaks are by sitting in the boot and having a friend hosing the suspicious parts of the car from the outside. Personally, as I do not have easy access to Man With A Hose (urban environment etc. etc.), as an alternative I did a roll wash sitt...

Re: Switzerland: 14500 GBP for... well...??

Aha... you know everything 🙂
But - regarding the initial one I remain curious. Can a non-Celebration 480 be worth 14500 GBP anywhere? Or does that one have something special?
Many thanks
Jacques.
