Re: Volvo 480 ES 1991 1.7L

Good luck with the new job and sale of CCN! Now lock-down is lifting, I personally have family duties across the UK.... with a daily H reg Mk2 Golf on 180k miles.... it's tough on the old girl and I totally understand your concerns! Best Wishes Thanks Jay! It'd be nice to have a classic daily but I...

Volvo 480 ES 1991 1.7L

Hi everyone, it is with some sadness I must sell my 480 after about 8 months. To give the long and short of it I've got a new job and the 480 isn't what I need to be able to do long distances, and to be in a place where I'd be really happy I'd have to put a fair bit more money and time. If you've se...

Re: Wanted Seat belt arm extender

This guy has 3D printed ones for sale but about £40 direct from Shapeways
https://www.shapeways.com/shops/volvo-480-spare-parts
Daniel Lindenburg from the 480 Facebook group has also posted some for sale in the past

Sounds as though you should be able to drill and pin it as Alan says

Re: 740

YouTuber Matt "furiousdriving" Richardson has bought the cheapest 740 with MOT and made an entire series about how he is restoring it. Worth watching, especially the bits that deal with rust, so you know what to watch out for. Start here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iykk_vxzwqQ Playlist: https:...

Re: First 480, first real project car

Well I finally put enough things back together that I decided to take it for an MOT! Went with the same place Norm took his, hopefully for a bit of mechanical sympathy. And sadly it failed, but ironically it was on one of the things I was told it needed when I bought the car, the handbrake. I did tr...

Re: Anyone Looking for a Starter 480? - eBay - Alton, UK.

I did see it from Facebook I think, makes mine look like a peach.
At least the lights look in good condition, about the best thing it has going for it.
Could make a good parts car for about £500 less...

Re: First 480, first real project car

The do tend to drain a bit, I have my battery disconnected when laid up. Worth testing the battery though, fully charge it and leave disconnected for a few days and recheck the voltage. With your cut wires, I was looking at wiring diagrams and Grey/White is used (at the dashboard) for the door open...

Re: First 480, first real project car

Well I got the driver mirror reconnected and it seems to work just fine, so no clue why it was cut especially as that is more effort than unplugging it. New (old) passenger window regulator acquired, quite tatty but does work. Was just in the process of refitting it, only one day since I tested both...

Re: Central Locking fix

Glad to have found this thread to see how the central locking works. Was sure I had central locking when I parked up a while ago. But after messing with getting my drivers mirror to work the other day I had to move my car out to let my dad swap his wheels over. The door wiring loom was left disconne...

That's unfortunate I was hoping you would get it because then I could buy a few bits back off you

480 bits for sale in Southampton (eBay)

Not mine but I just spotted it.
Ends very shortly but probably likely to be relisted. Don't know if it's any use for anyone.

Re: First 480, first real project car

Lines cleared! Headlight washer and windscreen washer finally works. I think the pump for the rear window might be bad because the line sprayed just fine but still couldn't get it working. Not too important though because the nozzle is off so it just shoots backward, don't really want to do that to ...

Re: First 480, first real project car

Washers: front or rear? Can you hear the pump whirring? The pumps are interchangeable, so if the front isn't working but the rear is, swap them over! (or just swap to test if your front wiring will work the rear pump and vice versa) May also be worth giving the lines themselves a good blow out if y...

Re: First 480, first real project car

So I got the foglights and grill put back in. Started her up to go for a trot around the block and realised the wipers are useless, so new wipers as well, thankfully came the next day. But I've got two new issues right as I should be ready. Fuse blew sometime for the windows/mirrors, don't know why,...

Re: First 480, first real project car

Here is the complementary hole from my other wheel arch. All welded, sealed, and painted now. https://i.imgur.com/VYU5M3t.jpg I hate to agree with the "Hayne's book of lies" comments but at least for the 480 it is patently useless in so many areas. I thought the front foglights were just the front 3...

Re: First 480, first real project car

well I found the idle valve mount, the pipe is probably not a problem, just to make things a bit tidier for you I'm sure there is a pipe as well,(or 2) just been put in a safe palce, never tidy the garage/shed etc  if you are in no rish I'll have another proper look for the pipe at week-end w...

Re: First 480, first real project car

'might' still have a mount for the idle control valve, the rubber should warap around the WHOLE of the valve I'll have a look at week-end and you can have it (postage only) if none closer to hand. also I see that the pipe from idle valve to inlet has been 'taped-up' with self amalgamating tape, not...
