Re: Hampshire area 480 get together - Sun 12th April 2026

Would be nice to make it! Turns out my dissertation submission date is 8th May, which makes Cologne more doable, but this more difficult. Less far to travel tho so we will see!

Re: Alistair (Al) Luckham

I have already responded to the Facebook post but I feel it is fitting to do so here as well, as so much of my early years as a 480 scion was spent literally trawling this site that Sylvia and Al dedicated so much time to nurturing. I only had the pleasure of meeting Al in person a couple of times, ...

Re: 40th anniversary of the 480 - planning thread.

As mentioned elsewhere I will be in deep with uni work then so it will likely be a spur of the moment thing for me, Eurotunnel is supreme, and I know from my Denmark Run that I can get to NL in about 12 hours which is easily doable. As for the car, given it will be returning to daily use pending bra...

How did you find the vibe compared to previous years? Not sure it is one I will ever go to as it seems to have gotten too big now, will be going to Rustival end of August tho!

Re: 40th anniversary of the 480 - International Meet Up May 2026

I would love to go to this, but as it lands in dissertation time at uni it is all dependent on if its wrapped up by then. Oh and I will be moving house. Might see if I can do a one day quest where I get crack of dawn Eurotunnel, but I suppose hotels will be booked out

Re: 40th anniversary of the 480 - International Meet Up May 2026

I wish I could do this, but I rather fear that by then I will be waist deep in my university dissertation so time will be very much of the essence, I will have to see what I am doing closer to the time however....

Re: I might join the fun | 1988, 480 ES

Firstly, welcome to the club. As someone who has managed to blag his way into a classic car magazine column, I am loving your writing style and character! Secondly, I passed my test in, and daily drive my 1988 Volvo 480ES and I believe it is a real sweet spot in terms of spec: you get the high quali...

Re: Help needed; insurance claim after crashing 480

Hey guys! I got in touch with Ben who was very nice and helpful to me. As some of you also said; they probably want to assess it while it is still in the UK. Today, my insurance company agreed to bring the car home. They only wanted to do that if the transportation costs are lower than the value of...

Re: Hampshire meet up in the Winchester area

May or may not be in the Audi tomorrow owing to the fact that the 480 had its first breakdown yesterday. Called the AA and after molesting the pipework in the enginebay the car started and drove fine, but I don't entirely trust it until I have gone through the sensors. That said, if there is any pla...

Re: Considering getting a 480 as my main car

I have had mine since 2019 and it has been my daily for most of those years since I passed my test, with a hiatus while it was being repaired. Yesterday it had its first breakdown in the time I have owned it, and the recovery man was able to get it repaired at the roadside so I can say these are gre...

Re: Every Day I Write The Book - Insurance Matters

Excellent news - Next would be some insight on where they get their values from for policies. Oh and can I insure a fleet of classics? Well the value of the car is what you put down, but you might need to provide pictures and references for an agreed value. And yes I was expecting that quest...

Re: Hampshire meet up in the Winchester area

A quick update - this is still on. More news on a meeting place and time on the afternoon of Sunday 28 July soon. I am wondering if Stockbridge might be a better choice than the Winchester area. Any comments/suggestions will be appreciated. I mean that works perfectly for me for obvious reasons, sh...

I know a good place in Portsmouth but that is obviously a bit far for you, however I'd suggest asking somewhere like the Dull Men's club on FB as they WILL know someone I will be interested to know the details of the place in Portsmouth please as that's a lot easier for me than Winchester. Thanks! ...
