Re: Snazzy's story

Yeah I have always thought that this variation of Paris Blue looks awesome: https://images.app.goo.gl/BiAHkwWsbU4dr8yMA Here is the 'blue' TT I was thinking about: https://images.app.goo.gl/Z73bSJWqHkXxPXFx9 Does the 4th digit on the paint code mean a variation in the colour such as my car being a 2...

Re: Snazzy's story

Looks absolutely stunning! To be honest I always thought the two tone was a blue anyway, but some cars look green others look blue, certainly when I made some 480 cufflinks in the two tone scheme I used a blue colour. 184 is a better silver than Smoke Silver, more depth and radiance in my view If it...

Re: How to replace door mirrors (pre facelift)

Ah yeah, that's knackered! Have you been lucky enough to save the painted cap? Hopefully someone can send you an entire unit. I got the caps from the Lake's E-reg car for R1 and seem to remember that it still had intact mirrors... but I could be wrong. That is quite far away from you but if someone...

Re: How to replace door mirrors (pre facelift)

Would add that "massive posidrive" is more likely to be a Philips No. 3 and not try try with the more usual No. 2 Philips, or even an actual posidrive which wont grip properly as it has four extra splines. Its really not difficult though. What do you mean by "knackered"? As Jeff says, the caps can ...

Door card off
Triangle off
Massive posidrive screw holds it in place.
Un thread wiring loom from within door
Sounds straightforward and easy

Are you sure?

Replacing the WHOLE mirror assembly or just the coloured cap?
The WHOLE assembly, as both mirrors are knackered (but DO work fine)

How to replace door mirrors (pre facelift)

'Evening all

I am going to try and replace my doormirrors soon. I have looked at the guides on here but the only ones I could find covered the facelift 'small' mirror. Would this guide apply for my '88 car or is there a different procedure for my car?

Many thanks
Ben

Re: My beautiful ugly duckling

I always liked the look of the 440, indeed today I have debfriended a young chap in France with a 440 turbo that he restored as his first car, on Drivetribe. His dream car is a 480 Turbo so I pointed him here :D

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

If you assume all the other drivers around you are going to fo something idiotic in the next few seconds, and try to be ready for that , you won't go far wrong... Anyway, fatherly talk over!! Ben, I wish you many many happy miles driving your 480! :D David . I call it 'defensive driving' as NO air-...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

 I wish! To give you some perspective, I was only able to afford my first one in 1991 because - very wrongly for me as I soon learned - I was working with a City law firm and being paid the usual stupid money for the time. The first Volvo showroom I visited to look at a used 480 simply didn't ...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns: One year on

Congratulations!! Can't be many people taking their driving test in a 480 these days. Picking up on Jeff's theme, now you've demonstrated that you have the basic skills, you are now let loose to go off and learn how to drive. Never ever stop learning from your experiences - old fogies like me, with...

Just remember (as my instructor told me)

You've a licence to learn more, not to drive.

But congratulations all the same! :D
Yes very wise, in fact I am feeling more nervous as I got no faults than I would have done if it wasn't perfect...
