Funny you mention wicking.... Have seen this happen on the upper rear boot seal; Water was going under the seal, up the inside of it, over the metal lip and then into the upper headlining seal, then running along a dripping out through the rear plastics. Dashboard: Speedo: More likely to be the cog, or the connection from the speedo sensor (under the airbox in the engine bay) The infocentre, should be illuminated by a 5w, B10d halogen bulb. Anything else is going be..... troublesome. Just another thought - are the faces of dials flaking? Its a comin...

The whole hub assembly bolts to the axle with 4 bolts. Very simple to swap over.
