Re: Volvo 480 ES 1989

Have edited the post to show the pictures; Couple of things 1) I'd definetly try and get it running, would really help with the sale. If we can help in anyway, please ask! 2) Wouldn't hide the reg - Most people's first instinct is to check the previous MOT's. Hiding the reg makes it impossible to ch...

Re: Running costs

Am I right in thinking it is an oil that's hard to find over here? When we did a full fluid service we had to import some Elf oil from France for the gearbox at least, it felt special Gearbox oil is a bit finicky to find - Elf Tranself NFJ 75W-80 Gear Oil is apparently the stuff. Odd that the spark...

Re: Oooops I did it again....

Popped in to see Britney this morning; Didn't have much time but decided to see just how the filler neck came off. For reference, the single 10 mm into the chassis rail is all that's keeping it there! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3fT000NUwOsaLVw2jbITR2livkSecnBufg0b7iOjPw449vExJX-_C3ioa...

Re: Running costs

Apologies, was doing super quick shopping at polarparts.de and based it on a two litre! You’d think they’d (and me) would know better!

Was just to give an idea of costs, not an actual shopping list!

Re: Running costs

I run the toyo tyres on mine and they are actually really quite nice. I'm not suggesting they're "cheap" tyres, just that they're the cheapest branded tyres I could find. If someone wants to trust their car to some no-name-less-grips, that's their choice. I look for a little more in a tyre than "Ro...

Running costs

Bit of a random post (but hey, you'd expect nothing less!) Imagine you've just bought your 480 (or perhaps are looking at buying one). What have you got in store in terms of running costs? Some assumptions: 1) Everything is knackered. And unless you've got history or documented evidence to prove oth...

Re: front strut brace

First step would be to make sure what you've got is working properly. From experience, I'd say your shocks will be long overdue a change. A set of Bilstein's and lowered springs, new front wishbones and drop links all round, with a good Geo setup would be first step. Tyre technology has come on in l...

a strut brace will do nothing for body roll; Anti-roll bars do that. Sadly, you're into custom stuff there too!

You've do the usual lowering and shocks I presume?
