Re: 480 for a car review wanted!

There's several car-related YouTube channels I'm following in the UK, some are pretty fun to watch. One is called "idriveaclassic", run by Steph, a young lady who doesn't do the oily bits, just how the car looks and drives: https://www.youtube.com/c/idriveaclassic/featured Instagram: https://www.in...

Re: Are all 480 antennas electric?

I think all 480s had electric aerials. Has your radio been replaced? It may just be they didn’t wire it up!

Re: Battery dying? Strange symptoms (for a newbie)

One thing to consider..... As the winter approaches, we use more electric (headlamps, blowers, heated rear window etc).

Of course a modern alternator is designed to cope with all of this, but I'd encourage you to have a read of this post once you've got your new battery fitted.

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

Hmmm Bit too far for assistance then :(

The way the arch has gone along the window line makes me wonder if it had had a replacement at some point?

and the hole in the roof? Aerial maybe?

Re: 1.7 480

If you have not already purchased the car there is what appears to be a really decent example for sale on Facebook. It is a 95 celebration model and includes a load of spares.maybe worth a look although bear in mind it’s a 2ltre. Cheers Norman Got a link Norm? Not showing on my searches (blummin fa...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

The rust is roughly in line with plastic side window trim (which is also rusted through) and certainly crunchy :wall: Breaking for spares is indeed looking likely. Although without getting the car running I have little clue about what works! I'd love to get myself another (and much better nick) 480...

Re: 1.7 480

Someone has to buy the ones others don't want! And that someone is me :D And that's fine. What people on here are trying to do, is arm you with sufficient information so that you don't end up paying over the odds. Asking the right questions, using the points that people on here are suggesting, are ...

Re: Pool Car R1

Looking good Jeff and coming on well! Regarding the cold idle, I remember that my 1988 480 back in the day frequently suffered from a poor idle. The main (but not only) culprit turned out to be that, for some reason, that particular car ate distributor caps for dinner - fortunately in those days th...

"still waiting for clutch to be fitted" - that's a bargaining point right there.

Steering wheel cover - could be horrors beneath that!

Other than that, (and the previous mentioned points) it could be worth a proper look at; But for me it's not £1500 worth of car.

Re: Pool Car R1

Little R1 update for you. Sadly, as the dark winter nights roll in, by the time I finish work it's pitch black which isn't conducisive to working on cars, so progress may slow a litle. However, what we did manage get done, were some trivial, but important bits.... Anyone for a game of spot the diffe...

Would agree on that as a value too.

However, you should also take a look at this thread for what they can cost to bring up to scratch

Also remember that adding alloys (or in fact, any of the good stuff) to an S is, in the eyes of an insurance company, a modification.

Re: 1.7 480

Are you going to view it? Or simply buying unseen? How bad do you think it'll be? I'll have 1k left to sort rust and suspension Assuming you can do all the work yourself, you’ll spend a grand getting it mechanically perfect. The more “seasoned” amongst us know that all that glitters isn’t necessary ...

Re: 1.7 480

Hard to say from the limited photo's. Looks like a 2.0 S to me (hub caps). Half leather is a nice option. Nice colour and front lights don't seem to be damaged. MOT history shows a classic speedo issue (3 years of no miles, then jumped 31K in a year, and lost 23K this year). Advisories this year on ...

Re: My 480 GT

Rather than buy a replacement cog (thanks to Jifflemon for the link to the eBay seller based in Hungary for the replacement cogs), I thought I'd attempt to 3D print one. If it works, it means I can have one today rather than having to wait, also it would cost me much less. I actually keep stock of ...

Re: Scrap or restore? Honest opinions needed!

A very helpful list indeed!! Agreed - I don't want to waste too much on it if its totally knackered. Will a 1/2" socket wrench be enough to turn the engine or is a breaker bar essential? If so I'll have to wait until Monday to replace my broken one. Without scanning through the whole thread, I'll a...
