Re: Volvo 480 gets a post on Volvo Cars Facebook page today…

I had a quick look on the websites they suggested, one definitely seemed familiar and of no use to 480 owners.

Yes it was a nice surprise to see that the 480 isn’t forgotten by the company and they actually replied to my moan about parts.

We keep chipping away at them… :D

Volvo 480 gets a post on Volvo Cars Facebook page today…

https://www.facebook.com/volvocars/ The text reads: “In 1986 the Volvo 480ES was launched and played an important role as being the first series produced front wheel drive Volvo Car. The frontal appearance was unique with pop-up headlights and didn’t resemble any previous car we made. Fast forward ...

Re: 480 and the ULEZ

I had a letter from Transport For London last week telling me my 480 may not be ULEZ compliant and I was baffled for several minutes as my 480 lives in Yorkshire and has never been to London. I eventually twigged it may be because the prefix private plate has HX for central London in it.

Old Car Magazine Articles On The Volvo 480 ...

Random selection of 480 articles largely from the '80s (with the cover of the magazine it came from). Hope they're readable, they seem to get downgraded a lot when loaded. In the last article from spring 2004, Jay Kay from Jamiroquai hinted the 480 wasn't desirable so I felt the overwhelming need to...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

My parents had a Volvo UK demonstrator car with a CPV registration when I was a kid, a white 144 Ex-Police car with a blueprinted engine and brakes from a 164 my dad always used to say whenever it was mentioned. It came from Lex Brooklands Volvo in Leeds and when my parents first saw it at the deale...

Re: Me and my Volvo 480, Celebration No. 244

Would the dealers fit the Celebration plaques? It’s riveted on the back to the strip and the breaker bent the strip getting it from the dashboard, he was either clumsy or it was very well stuck on. I pictured a change of shift in the factory and someone new had done 10 cars plaques at the wrong end ...

Me and my Volvo 480, Celebration No. 244

Volvo 480 Celebration No. 244 came into my life in mid-October 2001 when a chance call to the Volvo dealer in Doncaster revealed ‘a 480 had just come in’ to their branch in Hull, previously called Walfred. The car was brought over for me to view and test drive in Doncaster and an hour and a half lat...

I love the large, high resolution images in this book. When you don’t think a bit of trim fits correctly on your car, you just look in this book and find it never did! Problem solved, worrying about nothing... :D

Of course, I’m not thinking ‘80s enough, I have a real problem with that... :D Wonder if they did the pens in other colours or ball point versions or pencils?

Sylvia, have you shown off your 480ES headscarf on here?

Pierre Cardin 480ES Fountain Pen

An unexpected Ebay find from a few years ago, a new old stock Pierre Cardin 480ES fountain pen in a turquoise tortoise-shell effect from the late '80s I would imagine. Someone may have a picture of it in a lifestyle accessories brochure from the period and may be able to shed more light on it. Pen s...

Yep I agree with the above analyses of the 480, cars had moved on by 1995. Doesn't stop it being an intriguing bit of car design that still fascinates us to this day though. :D

Re: Glimpses of 480s on old British TV shows ...

Yes the 480 definitely cut a dash in it's heyday. I remember seeing one in Bad Ems in Germany on holiday as a teen in 1988, first time I'd seen a Turbo with colour coded bumpers, (light metallic green/blue car, not familiar with the colour codes) front spoiler and of course TURBO in what seemed like...

Glimpses of 480s on old British TV shows ...

I'm beginning to see 480s everywhere... "On The Up", a BBC comedy that ran from 1990 to 1992 and starred Dennis Waterman, Sam Kelly ('Allo 'Allo) and Joan Sims (Carry On films). A light metallic coloured 480 is in the background of a scene in Series 3, Episode 4 (from the 19th October 1992 so IMDB t...
