Re: High co2 emissions 480 2.0
Yes, actually... both lambda sensors were fine ;) I had it replaced by a rather incompetent workshop that used to swap parts before properly diagnosing the problem. You can check a couple of things: - unplug the sensor and check the resistance between the signal wire towards the ECU and the ground, ...

Re: High co2 emissions 480 2.0
I had a problem like this. Similarly as the dcwalker said, the shielded wire between lambda sensor and the ECU fails with time. In my case the insulation between the shield (which is grounded) and the signal wire was broken. Due to this, the signal at the ECU was close to zero all the time and the E...

Re: Blinky 51/480
The dot at the slider knob? Yes, it is illuminated by two T5 bulbs placed at both ends of the slider. These also illuminate all the labels (“A/C, etc.). It is possible to replace them by pulling off the knob and then carefully removing the front plastic panel (no need to open the dashboard).

Re: First 480, first real project car
I think the lights shouldn’t be completely sealed. There are few “ventilation openings” — at least one on the back of the unit and one at the bottom. They allow air to circulate around the light, so it can dry out.

Re: Extreme Speedo Rescue
My only idea: could it be that one of the speedo wires has broken insulation and it is grounded somewhere accidentally?

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!
I have tried a spare MFU module and it behaved exactthe same. I think that the IC works as follows: Pin 10 is a reference ground for the IC. Let’s assume that there is, for example, 0.3V across the temp sensor at some given temperature. If Pin 10 is at the same electrical potential as the engine blo...

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!
Thanks James — you were right. The IC measurements are relative to a dedicated ground wire, which — in case of my 1994 car — is Pin 10 (Brown-Blue wire) of the grey connector to the instrument cluster. I measured voltage between the negative terminal of the battery and that Pin 10 (with the engine r...

Re: 480ES boot seal leaking
I also have a small issue with moisture in the boot. I am not sure if the seal is the main reason, but after 25 years, it's pretty worn out and not too flexible. Moreover, whenever it rains and I open the boot, there is some water that drips from the seal straight onto my luggage. Today I installed ...

Re: Bulbs for instruments
The seventh bulb is hidden inside of the ventilation fan switch but it’s not easy to replace as it’s not in a socket but it is soldered with some thin wires.

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!
New developments in my overheating story. I made some inconclusive tests with a laser thermometer — temperature seemed lower than IC display, but I wasn't really sure where to measure it exactly on the engine :? Then, I decided to test the info centre, which was the only thing that no one looked int...

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!
I am still struggling with the overheating. As suggested, I verified that the cooling fan works when bridged. Then, I took the car to two workshops and got plenty of things done: - new thermostat, - new 1-pin temperature sensor for Info Center display, - new 3-pin temperature sensor for the cooling ...

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!
My 480 developed overheating issue as well. It showed “STOP” for the first time about three weeks ago. The car went to a workshop, where they did not find any problems... I hate these issues that appear and disappear randomly :( I was observing the temp reading for few days — it is usually between 8...

Since it’s a Renault, are you able to transfer its engine into a 480?

Re: Mysterious connectors hanging underneath the car
The two loose connectors could be for the signal horn. There were two horns fitted as standard, so perhaps you are missing one?

Re: Illuminated window switch
Perhaps it can be done simpler I wasn’t sure how to remove/add pins without damaging the base, so I decided to move the LED instead
I guess that your solution gives the same result apart from turning off the LED while the window is going down automatically (minor difference).

Illuminated window switch
Taking advantage of a free afternoon, I decided to upgrade the window switches on my 480 and illuminate them. I had a pair of switches from a Volvo 440, but after a closer inspection it turns out that these are slightly different. Volvo 440/460 does not have the "fancy features" of automatic opening...

I think that some company (Westfalia perhaps) used to make these aftermarket roofs.
Once I came across a photo of a 480 with such a roof:

Wouldn’t it be better to install some better connector instead? Removing it completely seems like a no-return option
