Re: Stolen From Bristol - Volvo 480 ES

Sorry to see the photos of your car.

Your insurance should cover the recovery cost, it is a bit of a cash cow for them to milk insurance and contract work for the big breakdown companies.

If you aren't put off by a this hopefully you will be back behind the wheel of a 480 again.

Re: Rear sills disappearing due to rust

Recent experience, If you hit it with a wire brush it will be worse.
The thick rubber underseal hides alot. Rust comes from the inside.

You can see the inside if the arches if you take the boot trim off.

Re: Novice 480s

If you are just wanting a speedo and not bothered about the odometer you could use a gps unit.

I have had one in my Landover for a few years and it is pretty decent.

Re: Novice 480s

I wonder if it got broken by someone chasing the fault, I was going to remove mine but thankfully due to the horror stories left it and found the wire was faulty in several places. If you cant source one it might be possible to go alternative. Some of the guys running SD1 Rover have the same problem...

Re: Gas springs for the rear window

A word of caution. I have 1 strut on the hatch the same size as the originals which came from a rover 216 coupe. Holds the glass great but I recently noticed that when closed it pushes the glass out of line giving a small gap at the rear lamp. For the hatch and lamps have a look at the body of the s...

Re: Blinky 51/480

I have had a few days off the car, cant spend my entire holiday welding. Still plan to get MoT done for the club meet though it might not be MoT until the day before. All I have done is give the filler a rough sanding to see how it looks. Not bad really but there are a couple of bits of distortion n...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Have had to knock it on the head for tonight, will rebook the MOT for friday as I still have a few things to finish as well as refitting the interior and bumper. My tester is a nice guy but dont think he would be too happy testing a car with glowing metal and wet paint :D That aside I am glad I poke...

I was tempted to leave the passenger side but I knew it needed a little bit of work. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/06374197c77cf9e3ca115c3537467d3c9236ab449730923137cddc7bc0a17ac1aee0cf51.jpg https://serving.photos.photobox.com/069169407e6f8e0301e6f6ae39b597f8e094b9062b92500b8f88019207e667f144...

Re: Blinky 51/480

I would work through the night but need to be considerate of my neighbours, so just a bit more to do. Lower section with a bit of metal added, Was able to weld on the inside and clean up. Got to love how the lower wing profile matches, definately worth keeping front wings even if they are a bit dama...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Bought some new flap discs for my grinder today. I prefer these over grinding discs as they as less damaging. I have bought a load on ebay but ran out. Screw fix do the but thing that £3/6 depending on the brand is a bit much. Whilst I was doing some surfing someone mentioned that you can but them f...

Re: Blinky 51/480

My mig only takes big drums. Just replaced a 5kg 0.6mm drum and the last one lasted ages. I have been using hobby weld gas, there is a local place that does it for £30 a cylinder. This is the hobbyweld 15 which is good, you pay a deposit which is refundable and they don't charge a rental. I found us...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Yes the inside of repairs are always a worry. I will give it a blast of weld through paint before I fit the outer arch and then get the wax in side. The inner panels are now done. I am not going to make a closing panel as per the original as it looks like a moisture trap. https://serving.photos.phot...

Re: Is it electrical.....?

Starts with a jump but not with its own battery. When you attached the jump leads did you put the leads directly on the battery or negative to the engine block? If it happens again put a jump lead from the battery to the block and see if that works, would point at an earth strap fault. Could be you ...
