Re: Blinky 51/480

The car is almost back on in service, I managed to get the bumper back on last weekend so that just left few bits. The front spoiler had a bit of duct tape covering a missing section in the middle. I put some epoxy putty on yesterday so that will be looking better once rubbed down and painted. I had...

Re: What period aftermarket radio/casette to use?

I fitted a Sony CD with a 6 disc changed. The previous owner had an apline set up but it was naff and faulty. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/7467006806383083f8a080349aacfcd2cd184234ff9e7224b99f95bd17cae9a2c8e6c311.jpg These and the tape deck version were common fit to VW Golf GTI is 1995/98, al...

Re: It's science Jim, but not as we know it....

This is interesting, I have been looking at some videos as I am looking to de-rust and re-plate some old car parts. I was wondering if it would work on door bottoms, if you were to submerge the lower few inches an leave it running it would get the rust out of the seams. How did the zinc work out? or...

Re: Blinky 51/480

The N/S non has an original volvo top mount, I drained the gearbox oil as a precaution but I got the strut off and back on without pulling the CV boot off, that was until I tried to get the drive shaft seated back in the box. Thankfully no oil was lost. Before I put the strut back I took some side b...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Coolant system all back together and holding fluid. Bumper back together but I was a bit tired so rather than scratching it and risk tearing the plastic I will finish off tomorrow. I will need to order new spire clips and screws for the grill and spoiler (which need repaired). Hopefully tomorrow I w...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Manage to part the rotten bumper bar from the plastic. You never realise how bad things can be until you strip them down. I only managed to break one of the fog lamps and as luck would have it the spare lamp I have is for the opposite side. :( https://serving.photos.photobox.com/3464878084d2246c719e...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Need to see more of your lift! Been toying with one for at home, but both front and rear driveways are sloped.... You really need a flat level surface for the lifts. Is has been great for my 480 ownership, the 480 has spent more time on it than any of my other cars but make allsorts of jobs you wou...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Today has been spent getting the old radiator out, cleaned the panel around it and cleaned up my spare crash bar. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/238529216c5ac94ed74592c88502a553a7b94e1cc645438587d74cf69c77d3a92461644e.jpg https://serving.photos.photobox.com/5128322654c194056e8e337a644a0d0536a39...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Whilst the car is in my garage and I am in the mood to sort out some issue. I had added a dye to the coolant a few months back to track down a mysterious loss of coolant. All I had seen was a small leak around one of the heater hoses. But this week I noticed a nice green pool of liquid coming from t...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Things are looking up. I have changed the drivers side mount to an original Volvo and this seems to have sorted out the positive camber. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/69214355c230dd716d049977192948063be6ae4dfc8b128f17b0d50c851b024322f0b555.jpg https://serving.photos.photobox.com/02388752efe336...

Re: Blinky 51/480

I have spent the night reading about camber. When I get the strut off I will know for sure. There seems to be a bit too much positive camber which wasn't there prior to the strut renewal. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRYFwZ-IQrRNHNIDtkgLA3SV4MoOM_zw7RG4xtIGnBTpHMo_mUl&s The f...

Re: Blinky 51/480

I may be getting to the bottom of this. I was looking at the old photos of the parts pre fitting. I note that the angle of the bearings are different. Looking on Skandix they are handed left and right ......................3472744 R/H & 3472743 L/H http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/suspension-ste...

Re: Blinky 51/480

I managed to find a bit of time to swap the rear spring for an original set. They are definitely shorter than the new ones, look like the new ones have an extra coil. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/298382661cdc6d677342976b78fea0c64c93bf16e42a686c1a9f1f99b841d2bdf494b72b.jpg I will get a photo o...

Re: Right Door Window + qutr glass + side mirror

Have you costed from an auto glass place? might be cheaper than you think and they have contracts for shipping internationally.

Always worth asking, even just to give you a base price.

Re: Blinky 51/480

I havent been able to look at the car, I did have plans to work on it this weekend but work got in the way. I took this photo last week, you will see why I think the problem is rear spring related, hopefully I can get some time on it next weekend. https://serving.photos.photobox.com/007024109d312878...

Re: Blinky 51/480

Looks like I have found the problem. In the Haynes manual there is actually useful section on the ignition system. I followed it in a logical order. The coil is attached to the ignition module by two screws. When you remove it it exposes the terminals to measure the windings. one of these looked pre...
