Re: Changing accelerator cable
Oh, one more difference in the new Skandix cable. It does not have the 2 electrical contacts which open with WOT (pedal to the floor), so I assume those 2 wires need to be connected together and that function is lost. Not sure what it does, maybe to disable AC with WOT?? Mike D. '73ES, '61P, '89ES +...

Re: Power windows no working
So I went for the most obvious and found the power window unplugged inside the door with the window disconnected from the track, but resting on top of it, which held it near the closed position. Plugging it in and briefly hitting the switch, the motor was alive and trying to move the cable. I also f...

Re: Changing accelerator cable
Ok, having digested all the inputs I went out and changed the cable. Turns out the Skandix cable does have the same turn to lock mechanism on the firewall fitting. Thanks for the tip to turn it from the engine side. Other than being a bit awkward to get the tool on it, it did turn and when aligned w...

Re: Power windows no working
Thanks for the pics (trying to get my post count up). There is absolutely no signs of life from either side window or motor (unless they are extremely quiet). Will see if I can work through the delicate door panel removal process without breaking too many fasteners. I can see some additional screws ...

Re: Changing accelerator cable
Yes, I said it was expensive, but when the car is dead without it, and no known source, you bite and don't look back. BTW, it is not exactly like the original but looks like it should connect up ok. One concern is the square firewall mounting as it does not have a built in retainer like the original...

Re: Changing accelerator cable
Thanks for the info. I am used to working in the footwell upside down as I work a lot on vintage Volvo 1800's, still not fun as noted. So what tool did you use to turn the square to unlock it? I have tried a large screwdriver to pry on the corner, but it seems stuck. Maybe now that I know it is the ...

Power windows no working
USA based '89 480, black and hot in the California sun. Any tips on diagnosing power windows that are not working. Obvious things like fuses have been checked. Thanks.

Re: Changing accelerator cable
I got the cable from Skandix in Germany. Their part number 10500000, Volvo #3459140. They made a small run on my request. Not cheap. Be aware there are numerous different cables based on your engine, etc. My 480ES is black, manual trans, no AC, complete unmodified, no rust. Works well except the pow...

Changing accelerator cable
I have one of the few 480ES in the US, so finding parts and help is not so easy. 1989 non turbo, manual. My accelerator cable assembly broke at the firewall plastic retainer and I can't figure how to remove it. It fits in a square hole and has what looks like a square retaining piece turned 45 degre...
