Re: Volvo 480 wanted
Welcome Jonny, Hope you get sorted mate. They are a brilliant car; I often use mine daily for a big commute. I'm trying to share it with the XM but my XM is the least reliable car I have ever had (should have fixed most things very soon though). Where abouts in the country are you? James, I sha...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?
In the Netherlands are several cars on offer from gold-diggers. Take a look at this car for 6,999. It's only an 'S' not ES as advertized. Red dipstick means oil consuming engine. No a/c. The APK (MOT) expired in October, 2011! Apparently they have been trying to sell this car for over 4 years, so i...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?
Carl's been over to have a go in my 480! With every suspension component renewed apart from springs and strut tops (should have done the tops!) it feels factory fresh... in that respect anyway. .. and very nice it was as well. It sort of made me wonder if you need to spend £3k to get a nice useable...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?
Well, the vendor told me they were unwilling to move on price so I have decided to wait a bit longer and look at a few other (less expensive) 480s first to get a feel of what's available in the UK market. Hopefully a sensible decision rather than buying the first car I saw?? I also want a car to use...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?
Thanks Robert, very useful and wise words. I have been told the car has been garaged all it's life and serviced by the main local Volvo dealer on an annual (I think but will check) basis. According to it's last 5 MOT records on line, the car's always passed without 'advisories' and has done about 80...

Re: Advice on buying a 480?
Alan,
The car I am considering is £3k not £250!! Is a good 480 worth that much?

Advice on buying a 480?
Hi, I am going to look at a late 95, manual, Celebration 480 in what looks like excellent condition, 1 previous owner, very low mileage (under 34k!!) with full main dealer service history. I would be interested to know what forum members think would be a "sensible" price to pay? I have looked at oth...

Remote and alarm question?
Hi,
Excuse my general 480 ignorance... Were any 480's fitted with alarms/immobiliser and or remote door locks as standard?

Re: 480 Newbie
Alan, thanks for the advice.
So what I need to find is an 'affordable' low mileage, late model, 2litre 480 in good condition without rusty wheel arches (or rust anywhere else for that matter).
Hopefully they do exist and hopefully they are not all at either ends of the country

Re: 480 Manual: wanted
My wife is going to Glasgow in a couple of weeks time, so if there is a car she can look at there
Yes, one has to be careful not to upset anybody on BBs.. Hope you don't get blown away (glasgowjim)!

Wanted -480 with a manual gearbox
Hi,
I am looking for a good late model 480 with good bodywork (especially the rear wheel arches)? I live near Cambridge so fairly local would be good .. Why is everything either on the South coast or in Scotland (both of which are very nice places, I hasten to add)!

Re: 480 Newbie
My SOH actually suggested a 480 to replace the Matra Murena. Can I have the Matra please? :D No change there, I have a 12 year old Citroen C2, a lovely little car when it works but it costs a large fortune to keep on the road and I have finally decided to get rid of it!! Thanks for all the great in...

Re: 480 Newbie
Thanks brinkie .. :D I actually like French cars, just not :kill: Citroens (or should that be citrons). No issues with Renaults as have owned a number of them. German electronics are great, owned a number of Alfas in the past, so know all about electronic problems with cars. Never owned a Swedish or...

Re: 480 Newbie
Hi carib welcome, the 480 is a great everyday car but like any other older model needs tender care, bad points are leaking rear lights(en suite) dodgy info centres, speedos, idle valves and failing turbos on early models.the wheel arches can be replaced using 440/460 arches.i believe jamescarruthers is...

480 Newbie
Hi, I am thinking about buying a 480ES/GT (probably not a Turbo) as I am tired with unreliable modern French cars (look fantastic and cost a fortune to keep running) and just wonted a little advice about these amazing looking cars.. :D They seem to sell from around £500 to £4k depending on condition...
