Re: Scrappage scheme

Thanks for further info William. As you say not very reliable when it comes to editions and as DC has commented very sad reading. The number of autos is interesting as there are very few left I believe.

Scrappage scheme

Hi all.according to a utuber ‘Geoff buys cars” there were 166 Volvo 480s scrapped during the 2009 scrappage scheme.wonder how many were rare editions or turbo’s and remember these were all cars with a then current MOT.

Very sad news. I had heard he had been unwell but his death came as a shock. He will be missed in the 480 community RIP.

Re: Any chance of a clutch cable being available?

Hi Ben R3 is currently on a 2litre pedal box and clutch cable which leads to a really heavy and bent clutch pedal. After a long search for correct cable (1988) I bit the bullet and purchased the pedal box and cable of the recent Norfolk breaker. Not sure if the early 1.7 n/a cable is available you m...

Re: How to fit a kill switch?

Hi everyone, thanks for the helpful replies. I think I’ll give it a miss then and invest in a steering lock instead. I never really had in mind that people were going to steal it due to its residual value, as 480’s aren’t worth a whole lot right now. Plus, they’re rare enough (and in the case of mi...

Re: MOT fail

Update I have sourced a potentiometer from the car being broken in Norfolk. Hopefully it’s the right one.

Renault part number for the potentiometer is Renault 7700722068 I believe. But hopefully yours is still there, swinging in the wind.
Thanks James will have a search when time allows although as you say I will need the plug as well.

Where's the potentiometer gone? It was certainly fitted when it left here.
Thanks Jeff, no there is nothing attached to air filter box so who knows? Will have to try and source one I guess.all other fails can be dealt with but without the potentiometer I am stuffed.

MOT fail

Hi all,R3 failed it’s MOT today on high CO emissions.I am stuck as to how to cure it.it doesn’t have a potentiometer to adjust and I have tried a couple of bottles of injector cleaner already which has improved the mpg but not the emissions. The max limit is 3.50 and it’s reading was 4.56! Any help m...

Re: Recommissioning a 480: 9. Final Bits

A great read, all 9 bits! Your 480 should not be remotely sluggish so there will be something you can do. I also have a 1987 480 and it’s pretty sprightly still. Where abouts in the country are you? Have you replaced all of the ignition components? Also, it shouldn’t be running on E10, get it on Es...

I know it's a 480 meet, but is anyone attending interested in seeing the 440 if I bring her instead? Or should I stick true to the theme? :D

I was having trouble starting my car the other day. What I did was wiggle the starter motor cables and it fixed it. Possibly poor connections?
That was my initial thought but the connections seem ok.not dirty or loose.

Starter motor

Hi all. Having solved a few issue withR3 it has decided to throw a new one at me! Twice in last few weeks it has decided not to start although everything lights up on the dash and I get that beeping sound.today when this happened I surmised it must be the starter motor,so gave the casing a tap with ...
