Re: 480 ES S/R Auto For Sale 62000 Miles From New

Well, I was obviously mile out on price :boom: but she does still have to go. Also I guess you guys already have a 480 so don't need another one . So the price for the car only including the 2 new tyres is £600 & is open to offers. Mileage has gone up a bit & now stands at 62205 miles. She'll a...

Re: 480 ES S/R Auto For Sale 62000 Miles From New

Forgot to say that original Volvo 480 carpet mats have been fitted from new. These are obviously worn but the carpets underneath are pristine. I have tried to add photos to the forum directly but the site didn't like it :? So........ more photos can be found here: http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/4...

480 ES S/R Auto For Sale 62000 Miles From New

It is with a very heavy heart, but I am selling Dusty my much loved Volvo 480 2.0 Litre ES S/R Automatic. :cryhard: The car comes with full service history up to 2014 & I have carried out regular servicing since that date (see below). Includes original 480 book & owner’s manual, Haynes manual, servi...

Re: Changing long range headlight bulbs

Hi, Do you mean the spotlights next to the DRL's? If so you'll need to remove the DRL & indicator cluster: Pop up the headlights & remove the screw nearest to the indicator & above the DRL. Next you need to push in the spring clip at the rear underside of the indicator cluster & pull the cluster for...

Re: Glasgowjim's spares list

Hi Jim,

Do you have a driver's door pocket please? The wind caught the door & bashed it into my knee. Cracked it right down the middle  (the pocket, not my knee!)

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Yay, she passed the MOT today with no advisories :hopping:. One odd thing though, the chap noticed the nearside mcpherson strut was fitted the wrong way round . Apparently he noticed the spring looked really close to the inner wing (he'd had a Fiat in a couple of days earlier and the spring w...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Well guys I changed the CEM to the spare I have & the car strated with the key first time :hopping: So it appears to be CEM problem as suggested. I've had a good look at it but can't see any obvious problems though. Non of the wires to the CEM show any sign of damage whatsoever either. I've had a ch...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

As you can see the auto switch goes to connection B, disconnect it, put the car in P or N and turn the key, if you don’t get smoke fault is in CEM, if it still smokes it’s in the wiring between the auto switch and the CEM. Thanks for this eye of ra. Probably won't be able to get round to this until...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Thanks Steve, at least I can get to drive her and get to the auto electrician. I really need to find the CEM now and maybe look at the inhibitor switch on the auto box, though it does seem to be working correctly. Must say these electrical problems give me a right headache . I'm much more at h...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Thanks for the diagram, it should help me get this sorted eventually. I still need to find the CEM and see if there's anything obvious there. For now though I've got her running, yay :hopping:. I did what Jim said and have jury rigged a push button switch under the bonnet. I didn't know whether to d...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

ECU, CEM, same thing? So the mention of one wire going to the ECU & one wire going to the solenoid via the auto box inhibitor is a red herring? I'll try the hotwire in the morning, at least I'll be able to move her if she starts. Unfortunately my drive is downhill to the garage so no chance of pushi...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

I'd had some thoughts the CEM might be the issue following on from today's dismal failure, but as I'd just parked her up when the starting problem happened with no running issues whatsoever I'd thought it couldn't be that. I do have a CEM3 spare so will look at the wiring to that to see if there's a...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Well everything is back together and guess what?.......It's exactly the bloody same :badmood: . Obviously the white/blue wire is earthing out somewhere else. The auto box inhibitor switch is working correctly, I've proved that. Other than trying to get it to an auto electrician (££££££ ouch!) I'm st...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

OK, I've finally managed to get the old starter off from the top. Pretty sure its the original. The worst bit was getting the heat shield off, what a pig of a job :( . Anyhoo, the small wire going to the solenoid isn't the same colour as the burnt one from the ignition switch, it's a slightly heavie...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

oldgitdave are you near glasgow? Miles away Jim, I'm near Derby. Tried what "eye of ra" suggested & it doesn't burn when not in neutral or park, so looking even more like solenoid. Thanks for that. I've peeled the blue insulating tape back as far as I can & there's what looks to be a splice from on...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Thanks Steve, Jim, I was thinking maybe it's a solenoid problem as you say. Replacing the loom  wow that sounds like a horrendous job! Will the wire be burnt along its entire length then, or just the bit up near the switch? I only saw smoke from near the switch. I was hoping just to reinsulat...

Re: Ignition switch problem?

Got up early this morning to investigate. Finally managed to get the cowling off without removing the steering wheel. Found that the white & blue wire is badly burnt. Hope this photo works, it's the first time I've tried it :? http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y482/480dave/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG093...
