Ignition switch clean/repair

So, this guide is not about removing the barrel/ring, this is about removing the electronic switchgear attached to the ignition barrel and giving it a refurbishment. this is highly technical in that it is as fiddly as nailing jelly to a tree that is made of rubber, very small pieces are likely to be...

Re: Rescue car: R7 - black 2 litre ES Auto

So, Thursday I decided to tackle Ray-Le-Otter's weak boost and low cold idle. Turned out it was a manifold leak somewhere, so I'm going to have to lift the engine out. Game over for a little while. The attention then turned to R7, I had a good ole poke around in depth with her now being up in the ai...

Re: Rescue car: R7 - black 2 litre ES Auto

So, iv moved R7 today for the first time myself. The beeping from under the dash made me jump as I wasn't expecting it when I first inserted the key and turned the ignition. She did not want to start straight away, but got there in the end πŸ˜€ I did not expect her auto box to be so torquey she wheelsp...

Re: Rescue car: R7 - black 2 litre ES Auto

So, R7 is currently sitting with me, once I have finished trying to suss out my cold start issues on my own 460 turbo (ray-le-otter) I will begin work on R7. From what I remember there are a few blown sections reaching up inside the wheel well to what I can assume is the seat belt mount for the rear...

Depends where you need to adjust.
The rubber buffers wind in and out, and the top hinges are slotted
This is exactly what I did

Re: Ray-le-otter, back on the road

I'll give it a go, she's out of action for the minute, the cooling fan decided to play silly buggers and died, so now is the time to start attacking the little pieces that cause issues

Re: Ray-le-otter, back on the road

What are the symptoms of the starter? it may be a wiring problem rather than starter. In terms of running, I'm going to assume you've covered the basics? (New fuel filter, plugs, leads, cap and rotor?) I haven't done fuel filter, due to how crusty the banjo clips are, I don't fancy that trouble jus...

Re: Ray-le-otter, back on the road

Is that the very rusty 440 with the knackered auto box? If so, well done that must have been a lot of work! Why is it called that by the way?! I think tachometer is fed from one of the plugs on the coil but the gauges can fail. Mine did and installing a replacement in the cluster sorted it all out....

Ray-le-otter, back on the road

:hopping: I have managed to get ray-le-otter back on the road and through an MOT, she took a while to get there. Is there anyone knowledgeable on the 400 turbos in/near lowestoft that would be willing to help me get it 100% healthy and right or suggest improvements here and there? One issue I would ...

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

Also, and I’m sorry if this sounds rude as you may have plans for rectification, but are you sure that this car is worth spending any money on and will pass an MOT with that rust up front on the crossmember and subframe plus all the other stuff it failed on in April 2020? Aha ha no, you are right t...

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

I didn't know there was another gearbox for the 2.0? Might be worth investigating indeed, someone else mentioned that all renault gearboxes should fit, but I think that's far fetched and probably a lot of effort but worth investigating once funds allow if a gearbox could be sourced that would take t...

If you can't afford it do you mind if we jump in and take it. Ours has started playing up between 2nd and 3rd and can't decide which gear it should be in
I don't mind at all πŸ™‚ rather it get used than sitting waiting for me to round up the money for it πŸ‘

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

I know where there's an autobox going cheap Awesome, well not so given the circumstances πŸ˜” What is the going rate, what would you like for it? It might be that I'll have to hold off for a month or 2 until I get back on my feet, iv lost my job now and funds are dried up while trying to find work. πŸ™ƒ ...

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

I have corrected the level while the car is hot. (Waited for cooling fan to kick in! And digital display says 102degC before turning off) Started her up and....no drive still. Linkages look OK. Any other avenues to explore like a complete fluid change? See if I can rebuild the valve block? Want to d...

460 turbo auto box help

Hi there ladies and gents, I need help with my 1992 volvo 460 turbo automatic. I tried to take it for an MOT today, I allowed it to warm up on the drive and then under her own steam she rolled about 1/2 a mile. Acceleration was very lazy and she eventually just came to a stop, the engine revved free...
