Re: Vibration

Don't forget the torque reaction gas strut... if that's original that's guaranteed to be knackered!

Two years since an update... how's it all going? What's it looking like now? Any more plans?

eBay full of ZGR5B from trusted suppliers... why deviate :dunno:

Also in stock at OPIE, Euro Car parts etc.

25 years using NGK; wouldn't use anything else.

Re: 480 Limited Evolution

This has saddened me somewhat. Really sorry to hear the project has essentially collapsed. Project cars are a real ball & chain. Despite all the hours, they are still worthless in the grand scheme of things until they get over the line. Tell me about it. Best wishes for the move and I sincerely hope...

Re: A happy new 480 owner with a lot of questions

Note that the n/s rear fog might be a dummy. When new owners see both not working they assume a system fault, when it’s just the one and only o/s bulb blown. The rear fog units are quite vulnerable to road grit and salt down there so make sure connectors are all good. Similarly earths within the boo...

Re: Volvo 480 Turbo, Gear change problem.

Yes, good point Alan, I should say running ATF in a manual box not designed for it! My Griffith had the manual box from the Rover SD1 and that was specified ATF in a manual - beautiful gearchanges and never an issue for what it was designed for. Gear box oil is the ultimate compromise. You want load...

Re: Volvo 480 Turbo, Gear change problem.

Manual Gearbox oil : GL4 ONLY 75W80 Elf NFP (or equivalent). The bush kit (at gearbox end) : http://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/update11/link1.jpg Gearbox does not have to be removed. It is purely rod based. Unlikely the bushes alone prevent gear selection. They may create gearshift play or vaguen...

Looks like a manual to me as it has a shift rod.

In which case, ATF not ideal.

The axle (24) has just one part number, so that must mean the four spindle mounting holes are universal. In which case, its just finding the parts you need to do the swap. As Alan has said, does mean fighting with this... http://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/update5/5-1-2.jpg My mk2 Golf is a combin...

Toiling between black or matching colour ... Standard is body colour, but get a quote from a paintshop - can't imagine any bodyshop even lifting a gun for anything less than £250 these days. This may affect the decision! My similar Klarius experience kickstarted 6 weeks of exhaust fabrication! Shoc...

Always enjoy reading Seymour updates and a cassette holder is a massive thumbs up !

Was there a choice of cassette holders as I remember one with an LCD for outside temp.... even though the Info Centre has an outside temp (?) - or am I getting confused with something else? :bla:

That coil did make a difference. Not a big one, but it did. Now I have to crank for 2 secs before it comes to life, and it doesn't stall. Will report further though. Thanks you all ! Glad a stock Bosch item made a difference. 2 seconds about normal for a Turbo I think. Every time I start mine there...

As usual, great write up and the identification of no doubt a great product in a sea of Chinese cr4p. The MoT thing... :boom: I could argue that it is a replacement unit, not bulb. I think it would take quite a naïve MoT tester to accept that, given it has a chuffing great H4 on the glass... https:/...

Hi GSA Removal, hot water, gentle "massaging" and compressed air! Does mean nose cone off i'm afraid to get to the rad connection. http://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/update12/rad4.jpg I would also recommend a full cooling system service if the coolant has been of such poor quality to be blocking h...

Depends how high you want to set your bar...

Just keeping them going from a collection of donors doesn't seem crazy to me.

Spending £15,000 on something worth 5, shipping parts around the world? Yeah, utterly bonkers :bla:

Bonkers is to be celebrated though...

Re: Ignition coli references, equivalents B18FT 1991

Is the 480 coil 12 or 14V? A 12v coil is a turn of phrase - they will have an operating window just like a 12v bulb...... 10 to 14.7v usually. "In the old days" you used to get 9v coils for a 12v car and they ran with a ballast resistor. Normal operation they run through the resistor, but upon cran...

My 1994 Turbo coil is stamped 0 221 600 066 https://i.postimg.cc/kXQqMJS2/coil.jpg Both the Bosch catalogue and the Volvo parts book has the coil and ignition module combined "as one" under that part number. Has the old coil still got its Bosch sticker and part number?

Autodoc has an incredible search function if you can find the above.

I don’t think the coil is that special… will anything 12v do just to temporarily prove / disprove your theory?

Great work! Sometimes the garage has to overspill into the house... some people don't understand... the other half for example! Spat my tea out when I saw three-spokes but i'm actually reminiscing about them now. We had a magazine in the UK called "Max Power" and it aligned perfectly with me ...
