Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

Ah yes, I see its now titled "R5" and Jeff is on board. As you were, my bad!

Those paint prices are nothing short of ludicrously cheap

Excellent news all round.

Re: R5: Black Manual SR Turbo

"Congratulations" Sylvia if that is the right word  Turbo's are a rare bird and this one has been thrown a lifeline for sure. Just a slight reality check if I may, if I am seeing the same photos everyone else is seeing, but that needs £2k of welding, £2k of parts and £2k of paint straight off ...

Quite an achievement; you appeared to have bled used engine oil from the brake circuit!

Jealous of the undertray; it's one of those used mythical items that I know is out there somewhere.

Excellent work at the refuge centre as always.

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Yep, to second others, lookin' fab. The coloured bumpers also look great... but I still need time to program my brain of a CPV launch car not having them black. It makes you realise, in bright red, just how much of a WOW factor that must of been to staid Volvo dealers in '86. I doff my cap to you si...

Re: Volvo 480 ES - M_AAF

Huge respect for smashing a huge stumbling block that many fail to conquer... welding & paint. It is financial suicide, so well done! It was also the decision point for the “not-for-profit” approach to buying this 480 and keeping it alive. I get a lot of satisfaction trying to secure a cars future f...

Booked at lunchtime already! Tickets went live today. Wouldn't miss it for the world. If E-types and RS2000's are your thing, move along. I prefer a base model Nova Merit  Missed 2019 due to other commitments and 2020 was cancelled. Fingers crossed this year. https://www.classicandsportscar.com...

Re: "Volvo 480 Bows Out With Dignity", Autocar magazine 19th July 1995

Even the most thickest rose tinted glasses can't escape the fact that by 1995, the 480 was quite dated against the competition. The poor car was even having to compete with Volvo's own too, as if life wasn't hard enough; the T5R. Other sports coupes were destroying the car on performance.... Toyota ...

Hi Ben, I am genuinely saddened by this one.... looks a treat in the photo's. I was looking forward to a diary thread. My 1994 was pretty much identical in that area and the only way forward is to cut it all out and start over... http://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/Update6/6-6-2.jpg The only 'hope'...

Re: Big Car video on the 400 series + interview with Steve Harper

Been subb'd to "Big Car" for six months and they are really quite good histories. Only watched the 300 series the other day. I have a fondness of the 300 as it is in the same bloodline... and my Grandad had a few. Nothing much learnt with all the Gxx cars but I like the comparison with the Ferrari 3...

Nice update and sunset photo. Entirely worthy and never in doubt.

Rust is inevitable for something made of steel, no matter how cherished. Just keep on top of it, no harm done.

Don't do the maths of it all, its counter-productive

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

I wonder if my box is filling up with coolant Unlikely as: a) your reverse gear would be just as compromised as any other gear b) the oil on your dipstick wouldn't be red; it would be banana milkshake. I have just got deionised water in there at the moment for testing purposes I did this once years...

Re: 460 turbo auto box help

Sadly I have no specific 400 auto experience, but this is my generic auto knowledge. If you have a good reverse just like normal, then it suggests the fluid level, torque convertor and diff side of things are all good. Auto dipsticks sometimes have a checking method - many with the engine running. F...

1. Taurus 2. Vesa 3. Cetus I need 15" bias therapy it would seem. To be fair they are a good bunch of wheels and Pollux holds a special place in my heart as the 'original'. Such a good spot from Mr.H about the lines in the spokes..... spokes of both the road wheel and the steering wheel... never eve...

Re: White Auto on C&C auctions

Oh my, the poor thing! I'm used to seeing rust stains coming out of most 480 orifices... but never the driver's headrest... that's a new one on me! What heartless soul installed that ugly isolator in the oddments bin? Joking aside, it looks very original and even has its undertray  Sadly, if co...
