Re: My 480 GT
Rears are secured by the stub axle bolts. It ain't pretty... and you are working in close proximity to vulnerable wheel speed sensors... https://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/update5/5-1-2.jpg Fronts are peened like you say. Unlikely to be removable due to condition. You have to destroy your wheel b...

Re: Parts Required - Rear Suspension Beam
Hi Phil Sorry to hear about some MoT woes. Regarding the rear beam; consider if it is wise replacing a 26 year old beam with another 26 year old beam. The spring seats are easily fabricated. There is a thread titled on here that covers rear beam overhaul - and it's also in my diary. The spring seats...

Re: B18FT engine (attached to a renault)
For my sins I passed my driving test at the birth of Max Power magazine. I was more an Astra GTE man, primarily for the glorious 20XE, but many of us had phase 2 R5 GTTs. We drove them like we stole them and fitting a new turbo was as routine as plugs and leads  Dump valves and winding up the ...

Re: B18FT engine (attached to a renault)
Don't put his head on a stake just yet... i'm not convinced a 480 died for that. There is no Volvo-ness that I can see in the engine bay. The turbo sits over the gearbox from what I can see. Also looks like a blown-thru carb. Says the engine was scratch built - I know things can be over bored but th...

Now Sorted! - Air Filter Box Mounting Rubbers
Dear All, There are quite a few threads of early cars being broken of late, but to save me carpet bombing each, decided a wanted post might be best. I need some airbox mounting rubbers.... '9' in the attached diagram. https://thumbsnap.com/i/kitrDBRi.jpg I think they are all the same.. all years... ...

Re: Introduction and project update - N231PNH 480 Celebration.
What a fabulous story. Thanks for putting it on here for us non-facebookers. Brake disc shields are available new (amazingly) if you play about with google and part numbers - but with shocking prices for what is bent tin! Here's to many more years on the road. You can't put a price on that sentiment...

Re: R4 - our first turbo rescue !
Turbo numbers are critical ! If it was an animal, Chris Packham would be going mental. Well done, this one is worth saving as there are almost no 480 Turbo left, even on the Continent. They're all thrashed by the boy racer brigade or used as donor for a Renault 5 Turbo. That and the extra maintenanc...

Looking at the pictures Jeff I'm not half surprised.
Let me get a list together over the next day or so - keep an eye on your PM's!
Would pick up be from MK, or is that me imagining things? Covid allowing, although you would be my 480 support bubble.

In addition to the above valid comments... Check your rear seatbelt mountings in the wheel house... top right in this picture... https://www.jaykayem.co.uk/photos/480/Update6/6-8-4.jpg Mine needed rebuilding left and right as they had more holes than metal... and that's a late '94 car! https://www.j...

Re: Pool Car R3
Great write up Jeff - who would of thought a MAP sensor would be a critical sensor. Alas not the issue but good to know. Next steps. Since it's happy to start during cranking, ignition circuit must be ok. Not necessarily >if< the system has a ballast resistor. If the resistor circuit has issues they...

Re: Retrofit of ABS
It's an interesting question JP; but the breakers yard landscape has changed since James asked that valid question. Even if you found a donor 400 series vehicle, you are fitting obsolete parts. When parts fail, which inevitably they do, you need that continued parts supply to maintain your installat...

Re: Volvo 480 - 2.0 TT 93' (Facebook)
The 2.0 was a Volvo unit I seem to remember, not Renault, but yeah still bomb proof Are you sure? My understanding is all 400 petrols are loosely based on Renault F3 or F4 petrols. Are you thinking of the 300.... where only the two litre had the Volvo engined B200 (a reduced capacity B21 red block,...

Re: Volvo 480 - 2.0 TT 93' (Facebook)
if it has been sitting then the blue smoke could just be sticky rings? Difficult to say isn't it? I never had these Renault engines down as big oil burners, I thought they were pretty bomb proof? You could do a cylinder leakage test? Or perhaps get a borescope and check if everything is honed ok? E...
