Re: Nilani on Tour - With Headgear!!

Pleased you had a good trip Martin and the roof-bars passed their first serious test :D Not so good about the toll taken though! Rear spring is probably due to the shock of someone riding in the back for the first time in many years ;), fuel economy you'll get back with lighter loads, and the ...

Re: Nilani on Tour - With Headgear!!

Great to see Nilani getting good use - and also a relief to see you haven't yet lost the whole structure off the roof!! I hope the Kielder midges aren't proving too much of a nuisance... ;) In case anyone is wondering, whilst I appreciate the logistics of getting the roof rails around the coun...

Thanks Sylvia and thanks Edie - I look forward to Woodhill Spa with great interest!

We'll only be there for the Sunday I'm afraid, but we will be staying over at the Splash that night. We will join you, in Pud, at Whitwell, Rutland Water.

Looking forward to it! :hopping:

Won't have time (or enough paint) to get the roof box sprayed with the right colour before we go, but it might be a project for the summer :)
Yes - I was thinking that there wasn't that much left in the can I gave you...

Good news on the air-con front :D

Re: Nilani on Tour - With Headgear!!

Well done Martin for making such an obvious success of interpreting my rather vague and waffly instructions on how to fit! Looks the job - it'll be interesting to see it with a box attached, and I'll be very interested to know how well they perform, having only ever fitted them to a 480 (Nilan...

Re: Wipers and door mirrors

With a little help from Arthuy, he buzzed the relays and we managed to get the wipers AND mirrors going. It looks like the relay k is a bit flaky as they mostly now work. There were also a few brown wires, that looked like they melted a little. I'm about to look for the relay part numbers, but if a...

Hmmm...sorry, it sounds as if the CEM isn't as fault free as I thought. I'd connected up to test, it all seemed OK...

Central locking, clicking and beeping and the warning lights you mentioned all point to the CEM

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - VOL 480T

Rear seat back rattling in its slot.

Had this in my first 480 - as you describe, it took a lot if finding!!

I cured it with a small bit if foam rubber squidged into ot, but wrapping some tape round the lug that sticks out into the slot might work...

Re: 2x 480s stolen from Manchester area

Will keep eyes peeled in case they cross the Pennines - depends what the thieves have in mind for them I guess.

Worrying development for us all, though - we all want to see the 480 gain in popularity, value and desirability, but not to become that sort if desirable!

I feel for the owner.

Re: What is the story behind the cruise control option?

It was only ever an accessory (certainly in the UK) and appears in the accessory brochures from the early 1990s onwards. It was a dealer-fit option I believe. I personally know of only one 480 (a Celebration) with it fitted, although a few more 440s/460s had it. As Jeff says, it was the early days a...

Re: Rescue Car: R3

Time for an update methinks. Using R3 as my daily to see how it behaves before starting to spend a bit on it. The good points first: the engine apart from a little cold idle wobble is performing well: gearbox no problems though the clutch is still a little heavy but hoping it will ease with use.: t...

Re: From Norfolk to North Wales - SJ's 480S

I understand this is a common problem with that gauge unit and I had it on my 440 - very slow fuel gauge, never got above halfway, and random temp gauge readings. The gauge unit is mounted onto the PCB on 4 metal "washers" and these provide the earth for the gauges. But they tarnish... If you strip ...

Pleased to hear you're making progress Jim and that the CEM seems to have done the trick! Coolant - I always use the genuine Volvo stuff. It's no dearer than any other good brand and ar least that way you know you've got the right stuff. Given what you've said about the temp gauge and fan I would ch...
