Re: Blue ES on eBay

I did forget to mention that it is a great car one can use everyday as well, so much more soul than a modern finance-deal-mobile yep, makes me think about a second one every time I drive the 480 vs C30 :-) Hang in there Alan; I'm almost there...just as soon as I have the Celeb to the standard I wan...

Re: My 480 life is just beginning!

Pleased to hear you are making progress, even if more slowly than you would like! :D Fingers crossed for meeting you in May... All the best David Thanks David. MOT booked for 8th May. My local mech. is ex-Volvo and worked on the 480 at release (he's not a fan!!), so MOT should be OK unless I missed...

Re: Illuminated window switch

I too have done this a few times now - it's a great mod to do :D Can't help wondering if you are going about it in a more complicated way than is necessary though? Going from a fairly hazy memory now, what I did was compare the 480 and illuminated 440 switches and noted that the 480 switch had a 5th...

Re: Launch car Found!

It was standard for about the first three years - my 1988 white one had white surrounds on the headlight pods; by the time of my 1992 model they were all black. Cost saving... I think the only ones that continued with properly painted black surrounds were the black ones; I think they had painted bum...

Re: Launch car Found!

That looks amazing!! If I were to be a real purist the one observation I would make is that somewhere throughout the restoration process it appears to have acquired the later type door mirrors...but that is being picky; the car is a great credit to Keith :D Sadly perhaps (?) I can well remember when...

Re: Celebration no.480

Thanks for this Marc - it looks good from the pictures, although I have to ask - what's with the shark-fin aerial on the roof?! Knowing the asking prices this car has always demanded I can quite imagine it is way above what most people would be in the market for. I quite agree though that it would b...

Re: Replacement Door Mirrors (including housings)

Hi Martin Have now checked - I do have a spare passenger side mirror, in the correct Celebration red too, but it's not up to much I am afraid. The mirror glass is cracked (although of course that could be swapped over if your existing one is ok) and the cover has two lugs broken plus bad lacquer pee...

Great meeting you today Norm! The car is definitely a fine example...

I hope Jeff's advice helps you get a thread and pictures up and running for the car, and look forward to meeting up with you again soon😊.

All the best

Yeah, was going to ask if they were wary or late mirrors, going to guess late?
Late mirrors Jeff - don't forget the Celebration was the run out model in 1995...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - Fox

3) Quiz that Volvo service centre. If they haven't got a wizened old grey haired bloke who starts to uncontrollably twitch when 480's are mentioned, it may be worth looking further afield.   ...The first model years caused me a lot of headaches." As an owner of a 1988 model durin...

Re: Guinness world record attempt......

Jeff - you broke down? What happened? David Car was faultless all day, then literally as we we're on the exit road it just cut out and wouldn't restart. Info centre was warning I was down to a range of 35 miles and was on the last 2 bars of fuel, so I figured the most likely cause was that the gaug...

Re: Guinness world record attempt......

I am sorry we missed this but Mother's Day meant needs must elsewhere... Sounds as if a good time was had by all! I am currently in Anglesey in Lily and passed a 240 on my way to Beaumaris today that still had its Bruntingthorpe number on it...gave a cheery wave and got one in return 😊 Jeff - you br...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - Fox

Well done you - I think it was always a good looking buy, it just had the sort of price tag we all dream of yet somehow always say is too high...then we lament that our cars are not going up in value! I know I was among those who picked up faults but as you say they are minor... I hope you enjoy it ...

Re: Engine oil

I don't really know mate, sorry. A quick Google shows them as very cheap filters which Euro Car Parts slap a once-good name on to (Euro bought the name) Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but it is as James says - Crossland was once a good name, but the quality of their parts now is poor. I would...

Re: Engine oil

I believe either Mann or Mahle filters have this feature and are/were suppliers to Volvo. However, genuine oil filters are still available from Volvo - one of the few things you can still get! Not unduly expensive and well worth it in my view to ensure you have that non-return valve - it means the e...

I always take the nosecone off, and am in agreement with Jeff regarding time taken vs. scraped knuckles. As you presumably noticed I have similar feelings about the fragility of the DRL lenses. Hopefully Joep will be able to sort me out with some replacements in the near future as the spare cluster...

More progress on Nora - she now has some nice, good condition Cetus wheels, plus original DC964 stereo, courtesy of Richard in Stockton and the Celeb he is sadly breaking. Work is now underway tidying up the wheel arches :D Will get some more photos up in the next couple of days! Alan - you have a P...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

Yep - that answers the aerial and bracket questions. All early 480s had the cruise light there although it was only ever a rare option. It disappeared after 2 or 3 years anyway to be replaced by an old catalytic converter symbol, even before the cars had them. David thanks for clearing that up, got...
