Re: My 480 journey begins here

Thanks Nigel

I am a bit wary of asking good money for something I don't positively know is in full working order. How about this - if you let me know your address I'll post it over to you; if it doesn't work, then no charge, if it does, then £10?

Well spotted James - I hadn't noticed that! Must be great for people following Mister H who get a free windscreen wash each time he wants to clean his back window! :D

Re: My 480 journey begins here

Glad you've sorted the pop-ups - it's amazing how critical the DRLs are! I think you are right with the switch being at fault for the light flash/main beam - I had this on my very first 480 and a new switch (and back in those days - 1993'ish - it was a new switch, from Volvo, ouch!) solved the probl...

Re: 1988 Volvo 480 ES - A New Era Dawns

And there is obviously something not bolted to those two points in your picture. I can't work it out in my head though! Is that the bracket that takes the gearbox mount? There are some strengthening bars on the bottom of the gearbox/engine but I couldn't say for certain from that picture is they ar...

Splendid! Easy fixes are always the best ;) - it sounds just as James says: the car just needs waking up properly again!

Re: 2019 meetings

Nigel

I see you are in Leeds - we are just outside York. If you do plan to attend the meets (certainly I'd recommend the Derbyshire one in particular, although they've all been great!) perhaps we could get together and travel in mini-convoy to join the rest?

All the best

Sounds like a good plan to me, Sylvia - and happy to let you organise the meets since you do it so well :D

Jeff - the Volvo 600 is definitely a good idea as well...

Re: Electrical Faults of my car - How are they related if at all?

As has been said they are not related, I'm afraid - that would be too easy an answer for a 480! Your problems in the order you raise them: LH pop-up - this could be a problem with the relay (tall double one in the relay box), the motor itself (which can be overridden by turning the knurled kn...

Re: Info Centre

Been following this thread but had nothing to add so far to the advice you have been getting. One thing to check - is the orange "bridge" OK and in place in fuse position 23 (I think it's 23 - anyway, it's pretty obvious in the fuse box!)? The info-centre won't work without it. The yellow wire you m...

Re: WANTED: Fog light rear cover

Hi again James

Sorry - Sod's Law applies and the spare light I have is the LH one :( You can see how that back piece is shaped, too - you definitely need the one from the correct side.

Good luck - and I hope the Saudi weather is better than it is here right now!

Re: WANTED: Fog light rear cover

Hi James

I do have a spare fog-light and you are welcome to that part - BUT I need to check which side it is I've got. If it is the RHS the part is yours. I'll come back to you asap.

Re: My 480 journey begins here

Thanks for that David. I've sorted the paint, I got some mixed up at Car Paint Repair.co.uk but thanks. I'm just waiting for a dry enough day to do it! As for the lights I'm thinking the DRLs is a good place to start! Thanks for your help! Great! In that respect I am sure any decent paint company w...

Re: Haynes Manual anyone?

 I do appreciate the thought but please, no more Haynes manuals!! I have a battered one that lives in the garage for "workshop use", a clean one that lives on my shelves "for reference"...any more will probably just be kindling!

Haynes Manual anyone?

With the new car I acquired yet another Haynes manual (or HBOL as I know we all prefer to think of it, although it can be useful at times...)

I do not need 3 of them! Before I bin it does anybody want it?
