Re: ES TT on the 'bay - Genuine Gem or delusions of grandeur?

Hmmm...does look like a nice example, excepting the tape holding the dashboard together(?) and the peeling speedo face. I wonder if the paintwork is original? I think the question of price is a tricky one. On the one hand we all lament that the value of our cars is not increasing generally, and wond...

Re: Nilani - the latest acquisition

Thanks Jeff, good point - I know Hutton Brothers will do the job properly... Managed to get Nilani washed today so here are a couple of photos of how she is looking now. There is a colour difference between the wing I have painted and the door, but in real life it is nothing like as noticeable as th...

Re: Stolen From Bristol - Volvo 480 ES

I just don't understand the wanton vandalism, although Van is of course completely correct with his explanation about destroying evidence :( I hope you can get yourself up and running in a 480 again soon! You mentioned having obtained a second one - will that provide the basis for a replacement? Or ...

Re: 26th October Mini Meet Lincolnshire Wolds

Sorry you can't make it Norm; I was hoping to catch up again!

We will definitely be there: looking more likely than not we will be in a 480 - just need to see if I can get Nilani through an MOT this week... :?

Re: Nilani - the latest acquisition

Thanks Martin - I owe you and am so pleased you are pleased!! Hope to MOT her this week so fingers crossed... I'll get latest photos up asap so you can really see progress. Alan - I think it's more me liking the Celebration: the majority were burgundy so choice becomes a little limited :) Interestin...

Re: Nilani - the latest acquisition

Meanwhile, neither the front bumper nor front spoiler were looking at their best (and these photos really don't show the half of it)... https://i.postimg.cc/tgKs8KnV/IMG-20190809-155505.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/LXjJSxjQ/IMG-20190901-180844.jpg so I have also been spending time rebuilding the spoiler...

Nilani - the latest acquisition

Back in June, following a very kind invitation from Martin Mc, I took on his Celebration 467. Being an N-Reg it has been christened with a name beginning with N - Nilani, which apparently means "Moon". Martin had intended this car as a restoration project but other matters got in the way, meaning sh...

Re: '94 2.0 ES - Very nice one up for sale

Had one mid 90's and would love one to surprise my wife. Didn’t work out for me!  Depends what kind of surprise you want to give the wife I guess ;). I sounded out the "gift for the wife" approach recently as a possible angle in on a third 480: the wife reminded me of Jeff's experience...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto

Congrats on the MOT - I am pleased for you that at least this car isn't all problems! I assume from the discussions about under-bonnet templates you are coming to the Lincolnshire meet; I look forward to seeing you and the car again! following up on your thread the other day, did you want me to brin...

Re: Mint 440

Is this the one at Mathewsons in Thornton-le-Dale? If so, I drove past it yesterday afternoon and it caught my eye - at a glance it looked in good nick but sadly I didn't have time to stop and look at it... The Xi was a limited edition in its day and quite a basic model. Based on the 480 as has been...

Re: Wanted - Jack/Brace Kit

Hello again I have a spare jack set (jack and brace, missing the double ended screwdriver I'm afraid but in a decent condition original bag). Good clean working order. What's it's value? £20? Do you think you'll make the Lincolnshire meet? Obviously I am aware you have problems!!☹️. If so, I'll brin...

Re: 1990 Turbo Auto

Earlier models had a side shield both sides; later ones (at least, 2.0 l) only had one on driver's side. If yours is missing I have a spare driver's side one... Is the bonnet sitting properly closed along its side seals? I can't understand why the engine is getting so wet - cleaning those drain hole...

Re: Possibly the worse kept secret....

Virtually no UK law is ever retrospective - it isn't "just". That is why whenever regulations change on anything regulated you don't have to update what you already have. So if you have the original plates they remain legal. If you have new plates made for whatever age, they must meet latest regulat...

Wanted - rear fog light

Does anybody have a spare RH rear fog light they'd be willing to part with please? I have discovered that my new project actually has 2 LH units fitted - whilst one does indeed have the bulb fittings so it works, it doesn't look right!! I thought I might have a spare but mine are all LH dummies... M...

No, the roller blind cover was an optional extra (only standard on Celebration); different therefore to the standard boot cover that clipped on.

Might have one of those (boot cover, not roller blind) spare if you're interested?

It's the roller blind cover, rolled up; compare to the blue one where it is across the boot...

Those were the standard 14" wheels of the day - Antares, I think they were called. I agree they weren't the best, but wheels often turn up on eBay if you wanted to change them!

Re: 480 on eBay

Can see the CAT badge now! Couldn't see it on my phone. I didn't realise the 1.7 ever had a cat. I assumed the 1.7 was dropped for emissions reasons and the 2.0 was when the cat was introduced. What's a 1.7 with cat and auto like to drive? Never tried a 480 auto (not sure I want to either!!). I see...
