Re: 1990 Turbo Auto - Fox

Sad to read these latest posts - it's a lovely looking car and you paid a handsome price for it; you don't deserve these sorts of problems! I would echo what James has said. Damp gets into the connectors in the battery leads running across the front of the engine compartment very easily, and there a...

Re: WANTED: rear lamps covers

Will they fail a mot if there cracked and faded Depends how bad they are. If they are so badly faded that they no longer give sufficient light output, or that light output is the wrong colour, then they will fail. In really bad cases they can be virtually white and opaque, which won't meet the stan...

Thanks for the info, David.
Don't have any telephone numbers, I suppose?
Hutton Brothers is 01904 471607, Ray Chapman York (main dealer) is 01904 789789.

Re: Starting, & Running, Problems

Not sure it quite meets your distance limits but Hutton Brothers in Shipton by Beningbrough would be my recommendation. Otherwise, and I know it would be dearer, but the master technician (Howard) at Ray Chapman York knows his 480s and has helped me several times over the years. If you end up going ...

Re: Possibly the worse kept secret....

Jeff - so sorry to read this tragic tale... It's so easy to get carried away and then discover you were way off the mark - been there done that with a C30 a few years ago to be told that she was perfectly happy driving the V40 T4 and assumed this was replacing the 480 of the time (it wasn't). So I f...

Hi Norm Sorry for never getting back to you about helping you on this - been swamped by life recently and it simply slipped my mind. Anyway, it sounds as if you succeeded in getting the instrument cluster out :D The sponge was stuck on the RH side of the surround so that when it is in place it sat a...

What was coming out of Lily's exhaust on the Derbyshire run might have made me a passable toupe!! Trying another back box is a sound idea - all that rubbish shifting about in the exhaust system won't be helping Lily to breath properly at all - or perhaps the better analogy would be to suggest ...

Re: Scotland Mobile Mini Meet August 17TH 2019

PS: If anyone runs into breakdown issues up close to Aberdeen I do have a number of spares across to parts cars that could I'm sure to be implemented into action if required! :) Hopefully it won't be a problem but this is very worth knowing, thanks! It might avoid the ignominy of being trailered of...

Potent car for a new driver - funnily enough the 440 turbo came up very favourably and fondly remembered in a conversation I was having with two "older" Volvo master technicians at my local dealer just last week. Re: 480 ENGINE CUT OUT.

It sounds to me as if you have a number of problems here, some of which may be related. The low washer fluid warning is probably a "stand alone" issue - the floats crack or their seals leak and let in fluid and then they stop working (they sink so giving a constant empty reading). The easy solution ...

Fuel gauge perhaps needs recalibrating - never got round to checking that.

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

A morning of mixed emotions as my phase of owning 2 480s at the same time came to an end...in, of all places, the car-park of the Darlington Travelodge! Nora is now off to her new home with Alan in Aberdeen :( :D I hope she sees him home alright; it's a long way to go and will certainly get her prop...
