Re: Pop up headlights help please
DRLs do not affect pop-up headlights in any way. Different circuits.. Not sure what to believe here - I've just replaced DRL bulbs with LED but found that these interfere with the operation of the pop up lights. At first the pop ups wouldn't go up, following installation of the LEDs, which dimmed w...

Re: electronic / electrical parts - for sale
Hello Jim,
I've got the dreaded SRS light illuminated on the dashboard and having read some of the forum threads about the issue, wondered whether it might be related to the airbag units?
What do you think?

Re: i have serius problem with engine
Sorry to hear about your problems... that's life with a 480 for you!! If the battery has degraded, even by a couple of volts, then whilst the lights may show, it may not be enough to turn the engine. Normally if that happens, then there will be a click click click sound as you turn the key. (You did...

Re: Re-threading temperature sender seat
Hello Alan,
Many thanks for your cool and considered replies! I can see BSP adaptors available, as you say, for a few pence or so on eBay - so that would be the most likely way to go I think. I'll let you know how I get on..

Re-threading temperature sender seat
Hello folks, The sorry saga continues. Having taken out the (blue connector) temperature sender from the top front of the cylinder head, I now find that removing it appears to have stripped the threads in the head  The 'OEM' replacement sourced from EvilBay doesn't fit (different thread pattern...

Top Hose doesn't get Hot
Odd one this - my 480s is currently off road in my garage. I've been running it occasionally to check that all is working but have noticed that the temperature gauge never registers more than a slight movement, and that the top hose on the engine never gets hot. I;ve changed the thermostat, thinking...

Re: FOR SALE:- LED DRL lights
Sadly I don't think Spree is doing this anymore - The email address Jim has for him is no longer registered.
I have asked Brinkie for advice on locating appropriate units (see thread on replacement light cluster). If I make any progress, I will PM you with updated information.
Regards
Martin

Re: Wanted Front Light Cluster
The only thing is, I bought "warm white" LEDs and they are yellow-ish. I have to buy a set of white ones, as I also bought bright white 100w H4 headlight bulbs, and the colours dont match. Quick questions - do the LED replacements just slot into the existing buld holders and if so, where can I buy ...

Re: Wanted Front Light Cluster
A quick update - I've got as far as fashioning a 'lens' but not fitted it yet.. http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w636/mmcare00/Volvo%20480%20S/IMG_20160207_193100_zpsw7urersq.jpg The main decision is whether to try to bond the replacement lens directly to the cleaned up frame of the cluster, or w...

Re: Windscreen Replacement Options
Thanks for the swift reply - good to know it is a not entirely impractical proposition. I'm on my 5th 480 now, and all but one have had some sort of issue with the windscreen, although the current car is the worst so far. Am in Blackburn, Lancashire. I guess there might be a specialist with a screen...

Windscreen Replacement Options
Hello folks, I'm getting closer to the point of taking the car for its MOT, ahead of re-commissioning her as my daily drive (12 miles there, 12 miles back). Looking at the windscreen, there are three separate distinct cracks in the passenger side top corner, each well over 10cm in length, but not ru...

Re: FOR SALE:- LED DRL lights
I'm up for a pair too, if they are still available
Am trying to repair broken DRL lenses with a DIY fix at the moment, and I think LED lamps would be a better long term solution to the old style hot lamps.

Re: 480 ES for sale
Hello Ben, A lot depends upon the condition of the body and the quality of the service history. If you look on the dreaded eBay, cars of that age have gone in recent months for very little money (sub £500 in some instances) but with a long MOT (which I see your Grandad's car has) there might be some...

Re: Head Gasket Replacement - DIY or NOT?
Thanks for the advice, 1st480 - much appreciated! Unfortunately the car is off road and SORN at the moment, with no MOT, so I can't give it a run out to see if that clears the problem. I've run the car up to temperature, and left it running for 30 minutes today, and that did reduce the white content...

Re: Head Gasket Replacement - DIY or NOT?
Thanks Robert and Alan for your input. As a stop-gap before steaming ahead with the head gasket replacement (and in light of the fact that the car is off road for the foreseable future) I'm going to try some K-Seal and see if that makes any difference. Has anyone any idea where the best place to add...

Head Gasket Replacement - DIY or NOT?
Hello folks, Looks like there is water entering the engine system somewhere on my 1.7S, which has been standing for some months now, as I'm getting white smoke at start up and once the engine is up to normal running temp. I suspect head gasket failure (is this common on the Renault lump?) although t...
