Hope the date change is ok for everyone - longer for Cranna and arthuy to sort their cars.
And me too ;) You never know, it might happen - sightings of me in the Celebration are rarer than live photos of Nessie, mind :D

Re: Derbyshire Mini Meet 11th May 2019

Here's hoping the day went well and that everyone had a fab time. Gutted that I couldn't be there (this year!) but looking forward to seeing the pics :) How many cars were there in the end, what were the highlights and whose wedge won 'wow wheels' & why?(try saying that after 3 G&Ts!) All the best t...

Re: Nora, my numberless Celebration

David, she looks fabulous! I remember being impressed (and jealous!) when you came over to Lancs in her just after you'd acquired her, but now she is a work of art! I will use Nora as my benchmark when working towards getting my own (similar age but nowhere near similar condition) car back on the roa...

Removing front wing

Hello folks, I've trawled the various threads for pictorial insights into getting the front wing off - Glasgow Jim's photobucket 'How To' guide photos are long gone. Suffice it to say I have had a bit of a 'mare trying to get the driver's side wing to budge - all visible bolts removed, most of the w...

Re: Derbyshire Mini Meet 11th May 2019

Hello David, Norm and all, It's a bit touch and go for me getting along to the mini-meet, due to work commitments and some problems getting my dropped door sorted, I'd had a go at trying to re-hang the door, but only succeeded in making it (much!) harder to get in and out of the car. I'm not even su...

Re: Back in the fold!!

The wing is straight forward. bolts i think are 10mm and pretty obvious. What to be careful of is the arch liner. The pozihead screws rust and stick solid. The ones on my spares car broke trying to remove so and on my own car that were troublesome got grinded off. They are easy to get out when the ...

Re: Back in the fold!!

How easy (difficult?!) is it to take a front wing off? I'm not sure why, but since I started trying to re-seat the door, it now fouls the front wing constantly. If the wing (which is now very bent out of shape) was removed, it would be much easier to adjust the door bolts and pins. Any ideas? I'm be...

Replacement Door Mirrors (including housings)

Hello folks, Just wondered if anyone had experience of replacing the entire door mirror units, as mine are both somewhat shot to pieces. I did think about trying to graft on 440 /460 units, if I can't get hold of decent 480 replacements. Alternatively, is anyone aware of a supplier for replacement c...

Re: breaking LHD 2.0

With the weather warming up I am going to be chopping the shell up over the next month. Still have a lot of good parts, doors, axle, engine, glass. If you have asked me for parts please give me a nudge to remind me. I will only be keeping the parts I need for myself as I dont have space. I don't su...

Re: Oli's 1992 Volvo 480ES Limited Edition

The pictures are fabulous - as is your car! I've a lot of hard work ahead to get anywhere near the standard you've achieved, but wow! What a nice target to aim for :) Do you think you'll get along to any of the meet ups this year? I'm planning to hobble along to the May mini-meet in Derbyshire, and ...

Re: Back in the fold!!

[/quote] Hello James, I've had a good look around online and can only seem to find this part listed by a California based supplier - $1.90 plus sales tax, and $47 postage to the UK :( ! Skandix list them, but say it is a discontinued item. I'd like to try the fix if possible - where would you sugges...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Brilliant James & many thanks Alan - Since I'll have to take out the existing pins anyway I will have a play around with turning them upside down before replacing them with new items from Volvo. Now, what is the process for taking the pins out - I presume I'll need a drift / punch and a handy assis...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Would be more inclined to look at worn hinge pins. Open the door and get some one to lift and lower to see which one is worn. Pin part number is 3416207 and can be ordered through your Volvo dealer. I just ordered some. Brilliant James & many thanks Alan - Since I'll have to take out the existing p...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Hmm, this is the view inside the driver's door: https://i1333.photobucket.com/albums/w636/mmcare00/20190322_165854_zpsatbpceiq.jpg Looking at the lower portion of the picture, it looks to me like there has been some welding at some point in the past. Bearing in mind there is damage to the wing, it s...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Would be more inclined to look at worn hinge pins. Open the door and get some one to lift and lower to see which one is worn. I think this is a good shout - when I lift the door, there is play in the hinge pins that just isn't there on the other side. In fact there is about 2-3mm play in both the b...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Hello all,

I've printed out the instructions from this useful 'How to' guide viewtopic.php?f=24&t=18040 and will have a good look at the door situation over the weekend & let you know how I get on ;)

Re: Back in the fold!!

David has suggested the door strap might be the root of the door drop issue so I'll whip the door card off too & see what lurks inside :) I just slackened the bottom bolts that hold the hinge to the door and inserted a section of ally shim (from beer tin) as the nuts are captive within the d...

Re: Back in the fold!!

Am going to strip down & rebuild the instrument panel at the weekend, re-seating all connections & treating with contact cleaner. There is the usual intermittent Speedo issue &the odometer seems to have given up the ghost about 3 years ago - a trip to Brinkie may be in the offing for the instrument ...

I have doors and bumper in grey if you cant get anything in red.
That is very good of you - I will have a good look at the serviceability and potential of the door and bumper in the next while, and make a decision, once I understand how good / bad they are.

Cheers!

Re: Back in the fold!!

Hello David, Am open to suggestions for meeting up en-route to Derbyshire. I'm sure there are some logical points at which it would be possible to hook up. There's a fair amount to do before then though! I haven't been able to do much this weekend, due to the awful weather and having had a major lea...
