Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Dash's are a problem mate, I'm gonna have a play and see what I can come up with, I'll post some pics if I do anything worth taking a picture of! ECU's and boost is stock, running the standard boost solenoid, as is the exhaust ATM. I kinda wanted to get a feel for the benefits of the head work and d...

In 99% of other peoples hands, this car would have ended up as parts, not least of all because it would have been highly profitable, I h...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

First trip was for a wash! I think it looks nice, I'm quite happy with it, especially given the price :) Of the car I mean, not the wash  It drives lovely, exceeded expectations actually, the engine is transformed and the chassis really shows it's low mileage and well maintained+lowered suspens...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

You make valid points, and thank you for the offer of a standard colour filter thing although it's not high on the list of priorities, I may take you up on that at some point! I was hoping to keep the original instruments in the blue 480 once it has the saab engine, I realise this may involve some t...

Re: So, today was the day...

Oh yeah, those bloody foam things! I forgot all about those, I remember now you mention it thinking what a horrendous idea that was when I cut the blue one to bits to save it from 'death by rust', awful water trap in a really really bad place! That's definitely sound advice to get rid of them ASAP, ...

Re: So, today was the day...

You wanna take the carpet and the side panels out of the boot as well, beneath the trim can lurk horrors! if you're aiming for prevention of rust rather than cure when you end up with a big hole (which is most sensible) then you need to strip all the back out and check every bloody square inch of it...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Thanks dude although I'm pretty well sorted as far as the plumbing goes, I've worked on this engine in it's original installation for the last five years, I've had it out before to do the clutch, done 2 timing belts on it, serviced it etc etc. I know it well ;) Also, your engine bay is quite differe...

Re: fan switch in radiator

Sorry for the delayed response, I did have a look on saturday, just forgot to post up my findings for you. My fan switch was PTFE'd, although thinking about it, I fitted the rad not long after I bought the car (quite a while ago now so memory a little foggy) so I must have done this. Not sure what t...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzN5rBeGLUs Check it out! :hopping: Still lots to do, this literally had just what it needed to fire and run for a few seconds to make sure the install of the management was successful and that I now have a runner! Obviously sorted the fuel line and put oil in http://...

If no one else answers your query in the meantime, I'll happily take a look whilst up at 'midlands 480 HQ' on saturday and let you know. I have two radiators laying around out of cars ATM so can easily check for you

Re: WANTED Rear bumper mount/crash bar

Is this the thread you're thinking of? thats the one, more than my car is worth to an insurance company and I can do a LOT of welding for £400 :D That's if there's anything good left to weld to! I know both of mine are in a horrendous state, to the point of doubtful salvageability. I might just bit...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

We didn't make the pipe up, I found that lying around in the 'surplus crap from old dyno projects' area, it was the fitting to attach it to I had him make. Needs a hose tail one end so I can chop the plastic fuel pipe under the car and attach it and then the M14 + cone on the other so I can screw th...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Fantastic progress! Do you get to tinker on it during the week or just weekends? Got yourself a tick sheet of jobs to do? I tend to spend the works days with ideas or "mustn't forget"s running round my head, so like to get them jotted down. There's nothing stopping me going up to the unit after wor...

Re: My second 480...... project 'sleeper'

Right, been making some progress the last couple of days despite a couple of setbacks thanks to a midnight stint after work on friday and a full day on it yesterday.... Got the engine off the stand and after fitting my new crank seal, fitted the flywheel http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b432/asum...

Re: Getting more out of my 480!

I would agree with jim that the turbo is the engine to tune if easy power is what you're after but if you wanted to stick with the 2.0 then how about megasquirt + a set of throttle bodies? Ok, not the most straightforward thing but I'm sure you'd get good power. Standalone management and throttle bo...
