I got the gear selector thingy.

Thanks!

I hope I don't need to replace the rubber on the nut, I can't find the part.
I 'think' that the rubber thingy is an 'option' mine is well past it best by date and was only a dust cover (or collector)

Re: Volvo 480 Turbo, Gear change problem.

Manual Gearbox oil : GL4 ONLY 75W80 Elf NFP (or equivalent). From what I can fathom, you are running ATF in a manual box, so rectify that first! aye I'd suggest a quick oil change, ATF is thin so that would seem the 'reverse problem' :? ie most gearboxes as are tad 'sticky' if oil is thicker? I put...

I've come to the conclution that it should not be a problem to fit a hub to a non hub car. I'll update when I've done the upgrade.

Re: Upgrade from hub to no hub

The whole hub assembly bolts to the axle with 4 bolts. Very simple to swap over. assuming that the bolts can be removed, there might or might not be the remains of a hexagon on th eback of the last three I've had so best to assume use of angle grinder to remove? I think that they are bolted from ou...

PM replied. Thanks a lot Marek! Should be reproduced though. I have no experience with molding and silicone and stuff, but would take 2 sets just to send it out to someone with reproduction skills As Jeff linked to the hard plastic part is a doddle to print in 3D but the 'soft part' is a bummer as ...

Re: LED headlamps

I admire the thought & effort, but given the limited miles the 480 now covers I'll just stick with the existing bulbs as I think i have only ever replaced ONE headlight bulb over the last ten or fifteen years, :hopping: maybe been lucky but it was the 'high bright' DRL that used to get chewed throug...

Re: Power Steering Hoses

Just read this again and maybe I've misunderstood something. I thought the 10mm thread was to go directlu into the rack. Now I'm wondering the the rack has permanent 10mm steel pipes which I will need to use a compression joint to join onto the hose, hence a 3/8 hose end to a 3/8-10mm thread adapte...

Re: Power Steering Hoses

I checked the pump I have here and it is M16 thread so an option is to convert from rigid-flexible-rigid to flexible-rigid. With banjo at pump if you can arrange the flexible to go horizontal towards battery and then down under sump, or a right angle fitting, make sure it is the style that 'spins' t...

Re: Power Steering Hoses

On mine, the metal pipe is corroded as it goes into the top of the pump. Not sure of the thread but the fitting is 17mm AF. I assume this is the pressure line as the other one is rubber hose with a crimp. Did you have to flare the stainless steel pipe? I have brake pipe flaring tools but nothing la...

Re: Power Steering Hoses

Chris I sourced the FLEXIBLE sections from 'Hydraulic mega store', about £25 for the flexible and then similar for various fittings they also supply steel tube and all the fittings, all at reasonable price, if you are OK to DIY  I had planned to fit these to some RIGID STAINLESS pipe a friend ...

aye 670 miles it would be cheaper to hire a taxi? I got advisory for 'brake lines covered in grease, or similar', I guess I'll have to bite the bullet this summer and do the main front to rear, all the front ones that cross the 'down, across, up etc around tunnel' have been done, these are a...

Cheers Alan.
I've just managed to get a ring spanner on the 2 bolts and tightened them 1/2 to 3/4 turn each so hopefully that should nip it up a bit.
I'll need to investigate then, always assumed to 'difficult'

I have a persistant 'weep' from the area around the drive for the oil pump, (just aft of the cam belt, near-ish starter) I never actually got to the root, although I suspect it's an easy fix ? ?? Re: 480 turbo CC Bello

Yes Alan, I did that way but without the wheel on position. I screwed the internal allen screw until the disc was locked and then unscrew half turn. Then rised the hand brake three clicks and then screwed the bottom central nut until the disc was locked. I undertand that I have to compensate wear w...

Re: 480 turbo CC Bello

Hector I think you need to get the BOTTOM calipers to 'just' scuff the disc THEN adjust the central balance bar, otherwise you have lost 'parking brake effciency' and it will usually fail a UK MoT :-( best to put the wheel on to centralise the disc (or a couple of big washers/nuts to clamp the disc ...
