I 'think' that the rubber thingy is an 'option' mine is well past it best by date and was only a dust cover (or collector)

Manual Gearbox oil : GL4 ONLY 75W80 Elf NFP (or equivalent). I've just managed to get a ring spanner on the 2 bolts and tightened them 1/2 to 3/4 turn each so hopefully that should nip it up a bit.

I'll need to investigate then, always assumed to 'difficult'
