Re: Any tips for insurance?

Try going through Post Office. They have various companies and can be quite reasonable. I have been with O2,but they have just transferred the car insurance to Budget Insurance.Again,I got a very competitive price. However,I do not know what the policy of any of these companies is,but maybe worth try...

Re: Survival rates

Well,I have a black 2 litre K Reg with red dipstick which will not be going back on the road, although it is on sorn. It is past redemption unless there is a lottery winner out there.I bought it for spares as partially vandalised and I have taken bits off it myself. So that will be that odd one off t...

Dark Green 480

Thursday morning,24th sept, dark green 480 travelling from Tenbury Wells direction towards Worcester/Kidderminster.
I only got a glimpse of it as it was in a line of traffic travelling in opposite direction.
I was in a red 480 ES-did they see me?
Not very often that two 480's pass these days.

Re: Help needed. No start. No spark

Have you checked the earth between the engine and coil.Take it off and give the ends a good clean.I had a similar problem about 2 yrs ago where I drove to a garage, turned it off and then it would not restart. Absolutely no spark at all. Had to get it dragged back home. After a lot of head scratching ...

Re: ES TT on the 'bay - Genuine Gem or delusions of grandeur?

It will probably need a new set of tyres if they are as old as Brinkie says, even if the tread looks good. I had a slow puncture in one of my Michelins and took it in to the tyre depot. They said that they had been on since 2011 and showed me how the rubber was perishing and cracking on the inner shou...

Re: 480 ENGINE CUT OUT.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago.Engine died without warning and refused to start again.Had to tow it in.The culprit was the earth strap between the engine and the coil.It had built up some gunk at one end.Cleaned it off both ends and refixed it and have had no starting problems since.I...

Re: Info Centre

To help both of us,can someone show a photo of the info centre earth point. Are one of the earths on the alternator the correct one for the info centre or is it somewhere else nearby.Someone must know! Once we know ,either it will work if the earth point is cleaned up,or if not we can eliminate that ...

Re: Info Centre

So,thank you James and Brinkie for the helpful replies. It seems that the info centre should work that I put in out of the 2 litre,or in worst case scenario the fuel gauge and temp only. But nothing at all.I think Murphy would have been very unkind to have blown the info computer and also the LCD Disp...

Info Centre

My info centre stopped working a while ago.The back light works as does the speedo, but nothing at all on the display or petrol gauge. My car is a 1991(April) standard ES.Vin XLBEX183EMC567653. I tried fitting a 100% working unit out of a 1993 2 litre model, but in the ES it remained dead. Then I saw i...

Re: Idle Control Valve

Yes,you were right James,it was the throttle posistion sensor.Got a Bosch one off Ebay and changed it.The old one was full of oil which was probably the problem. Now engine running fine.

Re: Idle Control Valve

Thanks James-I have checked the control switch as you advised and the clicks are conspicuous by their absence! Will get another one and give it a try.
It will not hurt to change it anyway as the one on it has never been changed in 27 years. Will get back when I have changed the switch.

Idle Control Valve

I have an uneven tickover with the revs surging up and down slightly and stalling ocasionally. When I remove the wire off the end of the idle control valve the tickover reverts to normal, but as soon as it is reconnected the surging starts again.I have cleaned out the valve but it does not make any di...

Re: Pop up control motor unfunctional - is it repairable?

This seems like the problem I had recently.Pop ups came up-after a little stuttering, but no lights at all except for Flash. All light fuses seemed ok,but when I replaced fuse 22,which was labelled day running, then everything worked perfectly again. It is almost as though fuse 22 over rides all the oth...

Re: Bad Day

Well, that explains why I had no lights, but it is confusing as fuse 22 is only labelled Dip/Dim and Dayrun lights. They could have put"and all other lights"! I have a whole host of fuses that say they do the lights . 6- does Front and Rear Foglights 8-Does Main beam ,left 9- Main Beam ,right and Long ...

Bad Day

I returned back to Birmingham Airport after a holiday 3 hrs late at about 2am.Got back on bus to outdoor carpark and found my 480.It started first go so great. Then the gremlins took charge.Put the lights on and pop ups struggled, eventually came up and stayed-but no lights anywhere including side lig...

Info centre

My info centre stopped working a short while ago.I have a 1991 ES which I have had for 24 years so it has not done too bad.I changed it for one off of a 1993 standard 2 litre which was 100% working when I took it out. However,in my car it shows nothing. The speedo and rev counter work ok and the info ...

Re: Manual Gearbox Oil Change - Ins and Outs

Any idea where to get the sealing washers for the gearbox plugs? Skandix do not list them for the 480.I am changing oil soon and do not want to end up with leaks.

Re: It lives...sort of...

Have you checked the lights on/off switch in the car.I had similar problems with the headlamps having a mind of their own.The relays were good, but I found my problem by accident.I needed to get behind the dash for another reason and on doing this found that the lights switch had a crack in it which ...
