Re: Anyone know the difference between these two throttle cables? B18E‎

You're welcome James!
I found the best way to restore this cable was to simply cut the accelerator end (inside the black plastic end), make a new sleeve out of pvc on a lathe, crimp a new end, put it all back together and adjust in place. There is a white nylon type of pvc. I've used that one

Re: Anyone know the difference between these two throttle cables? B18E‎

That is correct. On these early cables, the switch/contact was spring loaded but the plastic used to break and went open circuit. This caused some problems. I have repaired this cable in order to mantain the full throttle function, on a 87ES. Just replacing the plastic sleeve for a more rugged one, ...

Re: Extreme Speedo Rescue

I believe that in order for that sensor to work properly you should have some voltage on his leads. With the function generator you are applying a signal with is own power supply. In order for the car sensor "make" a signal it has to have a voltage feed to create the sinus wave. That voltage is supp...

Re: Extreme Speedo Rescue

I have a small collection of yellow/blue and yellow/red connectors for my own cars. B/Y for an ES and R/Y for a turbo. To avoid soldering the plug-in pins, especially the ones on the speedo unit, i use some graphite solution. It has been working flawlessly for years  That sounds very interest...

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!

I think the temperature sensor is a Ntc type so, as the temperature increases, the resistance, and there for, the potential in volt, decreases. So, if you had any loss on the circuit the temperatute would appear colder and not hotter.

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!

I cut off the original brown-blue wire from the instrument cluster connector I ran a dedicated uninterrupted ground wire all the way between Pin 10 and the negative pole of the generator (I guess I could also use the battery terminal) I think this is not the way to solve that issue. All readings ar...

Re: Rough running - B18FT

Check MAF and ECT. Are the plugs getting black? Black smoke when accelerating?. This seems MAF related although it can also be ECU failure ( rare ). You should get 1L/30sec at the return hose.
Check throttle potentiometer also, and knock sensor

Re: Overheating...coolant temperature too high...STOP!

Have you got excessive pressure build up in the cooling system? An open circuit will show a cold engine on the info-center so it´s fair to say that you might have cooling problems. It seems a head gasket failure.

Re: My rear lights are in quite good condition - How do I protect them easily?

I have found the best way to preserve/maintain they current condition is to apply wax the same way as it would be on the paintwork. Make sure they are completely dry and clean. Apply one thim coat of wax and wait untill it begins to dry. Buff it off. Aplly a second coat in the same way and it's done...

Re: My rear lights are in quite good condition - How do I protect them easily?

If the lights are ok (not faded yet), wax is one of the best method to preserve them. A good paste wax is the one to go for. For example, i use collinite 476. A liquid/quick wax won't last. If the lights are faded i would polish them first and then go to the wax method.

Re: My rear lights are in quite good condition - How do I protect them easily?

Through several years i found the best way to preserve them from UV light is wax. That common car wax  . Silicone or oil based products will not protect from UV and will rise temperature leading to cracks and splits

Re: Petition for rear lights. Sign up !

I´ve been absent for some time and i think i must give my contribution on this subject. Someone posted earlier on this topic about the difficulty on reproducing the color on the lenses ( using or not color light bulbs ). Some years ago i contacted a Portuguese company in order to make reproductions ...

Re: oil viscocity

Here in my country, volvo used the 15W50 on the b180ft. Is the W50 that matters and it can be synthetic or half synthetic. The viscosity of the W40 is low in the hot range but acceptable. 15W40 is mineral oil, and not reccomended for the turbo. Fully synthetic oil is also not reccomended because it ...

Re: oil viscocity

Hi Steve, The original recommended oil grade (at least, here in Portugal) for the B18FT is 15w50.. Today we can say that is "normal" to use the 10W40 grade but, with that 10w40 oil the b18ft tappets will become a bit lousy. (and the turbo oil comsuption will increase). The proper viscosity to run th...
