Re: Battery: Ah, CCA and dimensions

...Those retro Volvo batteries look amazing Yes, translucid plastic case (oo-er!) was good for checking electrolyte levels in the cells unlike the all black type which leaves you guessing... (oo-er!) Anyway, I found a picture from an old tech-book my father kept and it looks a lot like a re-b...

Re: Battery: Ah, CCA and dimensions

@ dcwalker: You're right, I'll check with my volvo dealer and make an inquiry. @Jay-Kay-Em: Correct fit is also my concern, I see my battery tray has 2 holes to screw the "holding plate" and this means only 2 lenghts are appropriate. The battery sold by volvo is of no-maintenace type or you can chec...

Re: Battery: Ah, CCA and dimensions

Hmmm, it seems my quest may not be over. I have indeed been "warned" about the use of calcium batteries. :? This subject isn't clear and while some say the 14,4-14,8 Volts is only an overcharge tolerance, others argue that is actually necessary to effectively recharge such type of batteries. :dunno:...

Re: Battery: Ah, CCA and dimensions

Thanks to dcwalker and jifflemon for the tips and explanations! If volvo could still get me an 'historically accurate' battery like these then I wouldn't look any further... Really, they look great!! https://i.ibb.co/nLjbXsh/bat2.png https://i.ibb.co/j52Wg3c/Fotografia4702.jpg https://i.ibb....

Battery: Ah, CCA and dimensions

Battery on the 480 has died. Well, not completely but I can no longer satisfactory recharge it as the voltage drops very fast during the first hours of resting. Hopeless and infuriating... So, I have been looking around but some questions have arisen in my mind! Manual indicates 55Ah capacity, but w...

Re: No more original spark plugs

After doing some research I think Ade is right, the NGK ZGR5B is overall better suited, even more than the Champion RN9LCC. It depends on how you drive.. BPR7ES & BPR8ES are better if you do a track day or like me like to boot it around on boost all the time, even Ade says this.. The plug ZGR5B are...

Re: No more original spark plugs

Not sure why, but ebay is always the last place I go looking for something! But thanks, I think I will consider the possibility and take a look around. Who knows, maybe I get lucky and find some interesting deal. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Volvo-460-480-1-7-Turbo-Spark-Plugs-271...

Re: No more original spark plugs

Time has come to change the spark plugs and this topic has become of the utmost importance to me because for the last years I have been using the plugs sold by volvo. It's not like I wanted them but because once I had to turn to a volvo dealer to sort an engine problem (which only got fixed when the...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

Anyway, I have tried the car and the I feel my actions have been for the better. :D The pedal has a nice touchy response and the bite is definitely improved. :hopping: However, I can make out the pump relay kicking in (too often maybe?) :? but no lights have come on so far, so I think I'll leave it ...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

...(assuming of course, you're not battling with snapped bleed nipples!)... So it seems I was very lucky by not snapping any on my brake calipers!!! :o I have googled a bit on this subject and read some truly frightening stories about this issue. How about giving the nipples a good clean wi...

Re: Rear seats removal

How did you push the bum seats front clip through (that rectangular catch)? :?:

The clips on mine are slightly bent outwards and I feel no human force can flatten them to slide upwards. :badmood:

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

First of all, my apologies for such a late reply  but lots of things happening at the same time have prevented me from giving attention to this subject. :x Secondly, thanks to everyone for the precious information and advice. I had to trace the history of the car only to discover that t...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

With "ignition turned on" do you mean "engine turned on"? Or just the ignition key switched on? And does the ABS warning light turn on for a brief moment after switching on, or does it remain on all the time? And what happens if you keep pumping the pedal? No, just the ignition key switched on. ABS...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

Oops... Sounds like a bad accumulator, but then again, the ABS warning light will be on if something fails. I have just been investigating a problem with someone's pre-1992 ABS (ABS MkII). Spare parts have become unobtainium of course. I wish someone with knowledge of ATE brake and ABS systems coul...

Re: Are my brakes working properly?

All sounds normal to me. Pulls up straight when braking hard? If so, carry on and enjoy the car I will have to make some braking tests on a deserted road to check how the car behaves. The car brakes, of course, but I fear it may not be realiabe on a panic stop or under heavy brake use. I will repor...

Are my brakes working properly?

Today I noticed something that left me wondering if there is a problem with the braking system of my 90'turbo with ABS. How exactly should the brake pedal behave with the ignition turned on and off? This is what I experience with the car stopped and perfectly leveled : with the ignition turned on, v...

Re: leaking auxiliary water pump

I made a little experiment today: Suspended the pump, attached some hoses (one connected to shower  )and let the water run through for a few minutes. http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/t515/JRT480/Fotografia2668_zps01hej5dl.jpg When I turn the power on there is a small boost in water flow. Re: leaking auxiliary water pump

Hope I am not asking a dumb question, but can I activate-test the pump as of now, like this (outside car, no coolant)? I have a power supply unit of DC 12V (or 13,8V) up to 5 amps/ 7amps peak available, would it just be a matter of making the connections and see if I get response? a quick run off a...
