Just done this job today! Yes, yellow wire is tucked into the loom near the alternator, you can just about do this job with the oil filter in place but it's a pain! Would be better doing it when you change the filter! You need a 22mm ring spanner to remove the old one and a 10mm hex to fit the new o...

On-line parts breakers

I'd never used one before but last week typed a request for a oil pressure sender to go with my dash dials. Got a response the next day for one, 14quid including postage. Paid my money and the next day a box arrived with a sender and luckily a length of wire and the connector! Plumbed in and works f...

10W40 in there at the moment. Mileage just over 100k. Just done around 3k miles since the last oil change. I usually perform an oil and filter change on all my cars at 3k. However the oil in the Volvo looks new! Still clean on the dip stick. I have never had a engine which kept its oil so clean. Eve...

Oil Pressure

Hi all, Finally fitted a oil pressure sender for the dials. It works fine, when cold you get full pressure, but hot and idle I get no pressure, not in the red, sitting just off. I have a feeling Volvo have fixed the guages so they never go in the red! Just wondering what other cars are showing when ...

I was cruising at 3k rpm which is probably just under 70 in the "real world" but the dash was showing about 74mph. I was planning a long way in advance (it's fun to watch cars roar up to traffic lights and slam their brakes on while I just lift off a hundred yards back and roll up beside them!). I'l...

43.5mpg 400 miles...

Got back last night after a day trip of 400 miles, the trip computer is showing an amazing 43.5mpg, not sure how accurate it is. Saw a couple of 480's a blue one in Cradley Heath driven by an old lady and a white one one between Watton and Thetford been driven like it was stolen :-). Like buses you ...

I carefully used the word boring and not terrible! The wife’s Vectra is terrible, torque steers all over the place, but a lovely engine. I can change up at 1.5k revs and down at 700rpm! Now the Vectra engine in the 480, that would turn the 480 into a great GT car.

catgroom, if you've not done rear wheel drive, do it now! I've just tried to have a laugh around some of my favourite roads after fixing the exhaust blow, the instructions said get the exhaust hot to cure the paste!. The 480 is boring to drive. I love the 480 as it's pretty but it breaks my golden r...

Yoko C.Drive. I can't recommend them highly enough. Superb tyre, almost like the A509 which I wish they still produced. I had a nasty accident with a set of A520 (lets face it, my fault, too fast, but I weren’t expecting the tyres to snap so violently!). C.Drive are nice and progressive, and quiet...

Wanted: Starter Motor

...only if they are easy to change :-)
My "running on" starter motor is beginning to annoy me. Better get a spare in I think. A pre-emptive change might be in order. Are they easy to change on a 2.0i. If not it can wait until it dies!

Got under the car yesterday. Turns out it's the joint between the back-box and the next pipe. Looks like the exhaust is all genuine Volvo and has recently had a new back box which wasn't fitted properly. There was water dripping out of the expansion joint. The metal looked OK. I just opened up the j...
